This series is a reasonable read but the storyline is simple and the characters shallow. The relationships are too predictable and every couple too perfect. The first book was the best, but alas the subsequent books go down hill.

OK, I bought this one too. Didn't think I was going to to be honest. But the books are readable and the overall story arc is interesting. The prose flows and the descriptive language fills your mind with visions.

The heroes of this series are all wonderful people that Mother Teresa would have looked up to as role-models. The world is a bright place full of hope because everyone can be forgiven. People still fall in love in a completely equal opportunities world and no-one ever falls out of love, ever. People get married forever.

Yes, this is science fiction, and fantasy. We read these kinds of things for tales of stirring visions of better futures and that is what these books offer us.

Sadly, this vision comes at a cost, and that cost is the saccharine covered romances that I suspect we all secretly wish we were living (well, I do so I assume as I'm quite normal that others do too anyway).

You can skip over these mushy paragraphs in the books without endangering the story thankfully. As we tell our children, too many sweet things will make you sick. The author should embrace this in future and limit the romance scenes really. the story itself is actually a worthwhile read. More classic space opera from the 1930's than I've found since the golden days themselves. Huge space ships, battles involving fleets of millions of ships, beam weapons and missiles throughout.

Oddly enough, I can't wait to finish this series and I shall be glad when I have. I'm enjoying the story and want to see how it all ends.

Ok, I'll start with books 1 & 2. I actually found them easy to read and not mind bending with scientific terms and premises. That said I was enraged by all the perfect romances and easy finding of soulmates in such dire situations. Once I settled into the fact that maybe these were written with the intention of the science fiction characters to not be so know-it-all and too good to mix with those of lesser intelligence, I am afraid to say I started rooting for those romances and even thinking about who could be paired off next!
Book 3 is the book I read the fastest, I was glued to my kindle, shed a few tears, a couple of giggles and wanted to kick ass!
I am an avid reader and sometimes I enjoy the first book in a series but can't bring myself to carry on until I've exhausted books that are at the top of my reading list. However I purchased number 1 in this series on the 1st Dec 2012 and have finished book 3 on the 2nd December, I've just bought number 4 and will let you know if it's satisfied me as much as the others.

Just finished this saga and really wish I had not bothered.
All there was all the way through was marriages, promotions, pinching other entities technology, battles and the humans assuming the role of universal policeman.
What was the different coloured ships all about?
All in all rather disappointing, repetetive and boring.

HASH(0x99adbdc8) out of 5 stars A great book 28 Aug. 2012

It's already the third book in a great series. Even though there are some parts of this story I would call sad there are even more things that I would call awesome. The only thing i can say is that when you liked the first 2 books you will definitely like the third. I'm already waiting with anticipation on the fourth volume keep up the good work.

This is another excellent book in the Lens of Time series. Well paced, well written and excellent continuity of characters and story line. I can't wait for the next book. I say this even though I'm the type of reader who enjoy's long novels of 500 pages or more.

HASH(0x9b599eac) out of 5 stars An entertaining trilogy 6 Oct. 2012
By Sir Readalot - Published on Amazon.com

This type of story is somewhat old fashioned and harkens back to "Doc" Smith, but I have always enjoyed them. The Lens of Time series (which I think has more to come)shows exponential growth in weaponry science, heroes and heroines of extraordinary intelligence and intuition, a lot of luck, cleverness withoout prior experience as guidance, and general daring-do that strains credibility. But what the heck - it's just a yarn and it's fun.

I liked all three of the books adequatly to keep reading, and will likely pick up the following book(s) to see where it goes. After all, there are only a couple of reasons to read a book. One is to gain knowledge - and this won't do a lot in that regard. The other is to be entertained and to escape the day to day drudgery of life - and this serves quite well in this regard.

And anyway - how can you not help rooting for the snot-nosed kid from the east when he comes up agains John Wesley Harding in a Showdown?

Ender's Game, or Dune, or Childhood's End its not. But Lens of Time books are fun and worth the read. Enjoy!
