A lengthy essay winds through the artwork, never directly referring to the depictions. It starts with a rambling history of the esthetic of the body, bottom in particular. Somewhere along the line, the essay morphs into a discussion of the rear as any entrypoint for erotic play. Plenty of historical references showing how attitudes toward such play have changed over time, from an ideal, to a crime, to the fragmented views held today. On the whole, I found the essay missable, but the artwork delightfully easy to enjoy.
The book is well-made -- good quality slipcover, binding, paper, and printing.
I thought I might like the book, so I took a chance and ordered it; I was pleasantly surprised when I received it.
