Good Book, Ideal for those looking to go to Medical or Vet School. Cracking Practice Questions and lots of practice, particulary when you need to do so many questions is a small amount of time during the actual BMAT exam.

If you have a good memory and a really good grasp of the topics covered, this is AMAZING. I didn't need to do any other revision and I'm now in a London med school! That being said, if you aren't quite sure about the examined content yet, I'd say leave this for now, do some revision and then come back to it. Generally, the questions are a good representation of what comes out. And GOOD LUCK!

My daughter needed to sit the BMAT and the first time she sat an on-line practice test she was beside herself at how difficult it was. She was so upset that she assumed she'd never get a place at medical school. She found this book very useful - as the saying goes, practice makes 'perfect' and she found that although it is not possible to revise for the test it was very helpful for her to attempt several practice tests and get used to the idea that she would never finish any of them.
At present, there are two different tests which medical schools in the UK use to help them decide which students they want to interview - the BMAT and the UKCAT. The UKCAT test is a completely different test - this book will not help you prepare for that test. The BMAT is only required by Oxbridge, Imperial and UCL - there is therefore no point in buying this book if you are applying elsewhere!

Great idea to compile a book of BMAT questions. The execution, sadly enough, was terrible. I base my 1/5 star review on the following:

- The book covers area of A/AS Chemistry, Biology and Physics which don't appear on the BMAT

- The questions on GCSE level are pure knowledge based, and don't have that little extra that makes the BMAT questions difficult, despite being based on the GCSE syllabus

- MISSTAKES: the book contains a lot of them. From grammatical to factual calculation errors, the book is littered with them! Giving the impressions that that book has been written and published in a hurry to get as many BMAT candidates as possible to purchase it.

All in all, if you are going to use this book. Be very aware of the mistakes in it, if you are sure you have gotten a questions right, but the book tells you that you are wrong, look it up on the internet or in some other book... chances are that you are, in fact, correct.

I don't usually write reviews, however feel compelled to review this book because of the vast majority of positive reviews which may mislead many customers. Firstly this book does not prepare you for section one of the BMAT, this is as the actual exam contains mostly Verbal reasoning, spatial and data interpretation questions which in the book is scarce it seems the first section in the book is focussed totally on mathematical problem solving which is not a proportionate representation of the type of questions which are more commonly present in the exam. The second section is more relevant to the BMAT exam however this section on the book focuses on higher level scientific questions mostly found in A level material such as in the physics section where there is extensive use of "suvat" equation questions and extensive wave knowledge which is not found on the BMAT spec. However overall section two gives a brief indication of the scientific knowledge required by the exam.

Decided not to sit the BMAT in the end, but love doing these questions. Great book and covers a lot of question types.

A word of warning for those putative medics out there: the BMAT is a difficult exam that puts candidates under plenty of time pressure. Although it accurately outlines the requirements for Section 1, it fails to provide adequately difficult questions for practice. Most of the passages are far too short or far too transparent to serve the purpose of preparation. This book is only useful for a brief introduction into the BMAT; I would not recommend it for good preparation.
