This huge book is the ulitimate of all cake books. It has everything laid out in a simple format so that even beginners like me have created several of the very impressive cakes included in the book. It covers everything: from every cake recipe you can think of, quantities for every sized cake, all sorts of different icings and hundreds of wonderful decorarting ideas. It really does have a cake for every occasion.

I brought this book when it first came out back in 1999. I brought it as I wanted to make my daughters 1st Birthday cake. OMG I couldn't believe how many wonderful cakes there was. As a beginner back then it helped me make my first decorated cake which happen to be for my daughter. This is the ultimate book every baker should have. There's so many cakes to choose from and even cakes for those who have allergys. Step by step instructions with photos to match. Every measuring weight from lbs, oz, grams and cups and they also give advice on how to store and give a shelf life on each cake. Not that I need a shelf life as they don't last long in my house lol. My daughter is now 18 and asked if I could teach her how to bake and decorate, not that she needs it in my eyes. So in the summer holidays we'll be baking from this book and as she'll be going to uni next year I thought it be only right that I buy her her first cake/decorating book and by chance I was able to buy one second hand on here. Silly as it may sound but I call this my " bible" and I would highly recommend any baker new or old to buy this as you won't be disappointed

I've had this book for what seems like forever and it's one of my favourites. I used the fruit cake recipe for my Wedding cake and that was 10 years ago so I know I've had it a while but cannot remember how I got hold of it. So many favourite recipes, banana and lemon cake is divine (though it might just put you in a diabetic coma), the sticky gingerbread cake is absolutely delicious with it's lovely moist insides and slighty crunchy outside. I always use the Madeira recipe for my general cake making. It's full of wonderful, inspirational photographs and very easy to follow. I have just made one of the novelty cakes which turned out so much better than I could have expected - I have added a photo to the 'customer images'. I'm not a professional cake decorator, I just like to have a go and hope for the best. The instructions to make the brushes, paint tubes and everything else were just so simple to follow. On top of that, it is the biggest book I have on my shelf - nearly 2 inches thick and very heavy - that's a whole lot of cakey goodness in there. If you can lay your hands on a copy, buy it - you won't regret it!
