Powertraveller Minigorilla Multi-Voltage Portable Charger
Developed by a multi award-winning manufacturer, the Minigorilla portable charger offers a lightweight power solution designed specifically for netbooks, tablets and other handheld electronic gadgets. Depending on your device’s specification, the Minigorilla can offer up to one full charge for netbooks, four for an iPhone and over six for various other electronic devices. You can rely on the Minigorilla for reserve power in those off-grid locations.
Minigorilla offers a multi-voltage functionality of 5V, 8.4V, 9.5V, 12V, 16V or 19V from its high density lithium polymer battery. The higher voltages of 16V and 19V are suitable for charging netbooks and tablets. Whereas the lower voltage settings will charge Smartphones, iPods, GPS systems and much more. To identify the voltage of your device, check either in the supplied user manual or on the AC mains charger. If your device is normally charged using a USB socket, its maximum voltage will be 5 Volts.
Compact & Rugged Design
Leave all other chargers behind and, from a single Minigorilla, charge all your gadgets while on the move. Minigorilla is built for almost any environment thanks to key features such as shock resistant protection grips and a lightweight aluminium casing. Its slimline design has a width of 14mm and weighs just 265g, making the device ultra-portable. The Minigorilla has been field tested in the Sahara Desert, Amazon Rainforest and on Everest and, being subjected to extremely hot and very cold temperatures, the device performed optimally every time.
Battery Capacity and Charge Times
Minigorilla is powered by a 9000 mAh HD Lithium Polymer Rechargeable Battery. Exhibiting the latest in battery technology, it is not only lightweight but also powerful, providing nearly as much output as AC mains power. The amount of charge you get depends on how power hungry your device is. As a netbook charger the Minigorilla will give you up to one full charge, depending on your netbooks’s specification. Lower powered devices such as smartphones can get up to four full charges. With a DC and USB output, the Minigorilla allows you to charge two devices simultaneously.
The Minigorilla will work with most major netbook and tablet brands including Panasonic, Samsung, Sony and Lenovo amongst others. It is also compatible with virtually any 5V electronic device such as smartphones, iPods, GPS, handheld action cameras, e-readers and much, much more. Please note: to use with Macbook Pro, Macbook Air and Macbook you will need an Apple MagSafe Airline Adaptor and 12V car socket or an alternate connection solution. The MagSafe cable is only suitable for Apple Macs with the MagSafe style of connector.
Simple One Button Interface
One-touch button technology means the Minigorilla is easy to operate. The single button allows you to select the voltage required, turn the device on/off and select various other features. The blue backlit LCD display allows you to see how much charge is left and the voltage selected, as well as displaying a warning when there is only 10% power remaining.
Recharging the Minigorilla
Simply recharge using the included AC mains charger which works in 150 countries (using the included adapters). Whilst the Minigorilla is plugged into the mains you can still connect other devices to charge in tandem. Alternatively you can use a solar power input to charge the Minigorilla, via the Solargorilla (sold separately).
The Minigorilla comes packed with accessories to help you recharge your devices. Included are nine mobile tips, 11 netbook tips, a bespoke neoprene case and an international AC mains charger. Please see the accessories image for specific types of tips. If you don’t spot the correct tip for you, you can connect your own USB charging cable to the built-in USB port, making Minigorilla compatible with your device.
Who's it suitable for?
If you can’t live without your netbook, tablet or electronic gadgets in general, you’ll want a Minigorilla. Ideally suited for those who are regularly off the grid but rely heavily on their portable electronic devices. Equally, the Minigorilla serves a purpose as a must-have lightweight travel accessory for any business person. When batteries run out or you find yourself away from the mains, Minigorilla can give your devices the juice to keep on going.

(later update) I spoke to Powertraveller about this and was told that the manual is misleading but you can do what I wanted by speaking to them to get a tip that will allow you to plug your *laptop* charger into the minigorilla, and as long as you select the right voltage beforehand, the minigorilla will charge from the laptop adapter (it doesn't need to be 9v) and will pass power through to the laptop. I've just got the tip and have set it up and both the minigorilla and the laptop are charging from the same 19v laptop PSU, and indeed, once the minigorilla is charged, it still passes power through, I was able to charge the minigorilla, a laptop and a mobile phone all at the same time.
This is probably more convenient than the manual's suggested method as it allows you to take the laptop charger, laptop and minigorilla leads and connect them all up to charge the minigorilla and laptop, and once done you can then use the laptop charger straight into the laptop. If it worked the way the manual suggests you'd have to have the minigorilla and charger with you if you wanted to run the laptop off the mains. Upgraded review to 5 stars as a result.
- Charge my Canon LP-E6 camera batteries
- Charge my iPhone
- Charge my 11" MacBook Air
All of which it can do with no problem. For the MacBook Air bit you'll either need to buy a Apple MagSafe Airline Adapter and a 12v socket to plug into the MiniGorilla, or do what I did and chop up an old MagSafe lead and stick a plug on the end which you can buy from Maplin. That way you can plug it straight into the MiniGorilla.
IMPORTANT: Don't RUN your MacBook Air directly from the MiniGorilla, instead turn it off and charge it instead. What I do is charge it overnight when I'm not using it so that my MBA is ready for the day / evening then charge the MiniGorilla in the day time with the SolarGorilla. Once you're in that cycle you'll never get a flat battery as you can even charge the MiniGorilla when walking by strapping the SolarGorilla to the back of your backpack via the top strap slot. Then once you make camp, point the SolarGorilla to the best angle towards the sun for maximum effect. You can charge a flat MiniGorilla in a day with the SolarGorilla. The company reckons 6 hours but that must be in the sunniest of days, but even in the UK you can get 14 hours of sunlight (albeit grey!) which is enough to charge it.
The MiniGorilla comes with a plethora of connectors to charge pretty much everything apart from a Mac (as Apple don't allow 3rd parties to make their own MagSafe connectors), including an iPhone or iPad as you just plug your own iPhone charging lead into the USB socket of the MiniGorilla.
In summary, if you have a 11" MacBook Air and are going travelling, save your money and weight and get the MiniGorilla instead of the PowerTraveller Power Gorilla Portable Power Device as that's so much heavier and overkill for the low-power 11" MBA.
The unit is well built and comes with a neoprene protective case too. A quality product.
several times. One major benifit is that you only have to carry on charger for the Gorilla, and the charge eveything off it,this saves a lot of weight. This is also one of the very few electrical products for which the after sales service is excellent. When I bought it,I found there was no attachment for my Motorola Xoom. One Email, and a newly made attachment was posted to me,free of charge.
i now carry it to meetings incase either gets low on battery.
