Product Description

Product Description

Powermat Powercube. Universal receiver allows you to charge hundreds of devices wirelessly.

Manufacturer's Description

The Powermat Powercuber will enable a wide variety of products to be compatible with the Powermat system. These include many LG phones, many motorola phones, many bluetooth headsets, Nintendo DS Lite, Nintendo DSi, all Nokia 2mm pin phones, many Samsung phones, Playstation Portable, some Kodak cameras, All Sony Erricson phones with standard connector, all Blackberry models that use mini USB, many T-Mobile G1 and many GPS devices. Introducing Powermat, the revolutionary new charging system that enables you to wirelessly charge up to three devices at the same time. Each Powermat Mat is stylishly designed to flawlessly integrate into its surroundings and has been engineered to give you years of reliable performance. The Powermat Wireless Charging System provides a simple, fast and efficient way to keep all of your favourite personal electronic devices charged. There are many benefits to the Powermat charging system, the most obvious one being the ability to lose the spaghetti of wires that clutters your home. The Powermat is simple to use, just connect your Powermat receiver (sold separately) and then drop your product on to the mat and charge. Powermat is also energy saving, being able to charge up to three devices at one time with the use of only one plug. It’s not just energy efficient either, it charges just as fast as your standard adaptor. Enabling your devices with Powermat Receivers is what allows you to Drop and Charge them on any Powermat Mat to experience wireless charging. Every Powermat Receiver seamlessly recognizes and bonds to the device that it will enable to charge wirelessly. A magnetic attraction between every Receiver and each access point on every Mat assures that alignment is precise and the most efficient charging will occur. This is one of the keys to the Powermat system’s ability to charge your devices as fast or faster than the original power adaptor. The RFiD Handshake is the communication between the Mat and the Receiver which allows the mat to deliver an exact amount of power for the proper length of time so that the transfer of power is safe and efficient and no energy is ever wasted. A unique sound tells you that a solid connection has been made and that your device is now charging. A second, similar sound is heard when the device is removed. The level of these sounds can be changed to your preferred volume or they can be turned off. Each access point also has a corresponding light indicator that informs you that wireless charging is occurring. Again, the intensity of these lights can be changed or they can be turned off. When a device reaches full charge, power is shut off to that device to save energy. Other devices will continue to charge until they too are full. Once full power is achieved and the Auto Shut Off has occurred to save energy, the system will monitor the status of the battery in your device. If the battery is used, the system will again initiate charging and return the battery to a full charge. A USB connection is available on every Mat for legacy devices providing another source for power rather than finding an additional power outlet.

I have to raise a couple of points here about the powermat and its accessories:

1) The page description for the powermat leads you to believe that all you need is the powermat alone (apologies if this has since been changed)

2) The extra accessories that have to be purchased in order for the powermat to work

3) The phone backs that are needed in order for the mat to work correctly are only available for a limited number of devices. Leaving those people like myself with no option than to purchase another accessory-the powermat powercube with all its different plugs for the different charging sockets on most phones, with a lead from socket to powercube. which leads me to the question: in this respect is it a wireless mobile powering device? or an extention lead? A gimmick.

while the device is a novel idea, there are other wireless charging items out there that do not require the extra (unknown) expense of having to buy other accessories for the product to work, at a considerably cheaper price.

5 stars for innovation and style
1 star for lack of thought for users of less popular phones

Purchased the
Powermat last week and came with one Powercube so I ordered another and no problems whatsoever.
Be aware though that I have a Star N8000 mobile phone (Galaxy Note Clone) purchased from China and is a wonderful phone but this Powermat does not charge the phone. The socket gets hot and although it says it is charging on the phone but it doesn't. So be warned it will not charge the Star N8000.
Everything else I have tried works fine and no problems at all.

Purchased Powermat with 1 Powercube so I purchased another. I get on very well with the Powermat although only wireless if you have iphone or Blackberry (extra case needed for both). The Powercube charges most mobiles with spare tips stored in the Powercube. For me this means fewer cables, a lot neater. I also bought a DS Lite case, so this goes straight onto the powermat. Works fine and shuts off when charged. These are cheap at the moment so grab a bargain.

Works fine and alignment on the mat is not a problem as it is easily to place the powercube on the mat.

To be honest it is not clear from the description what this product does so here goes. The technology relies on two parts to make the charging work and the two parts are 'connected' wirelessly. One part is attached to your phone (normally built into a phone case) and the other is built into the charging cradle or mat. So for the usual suspect devices you will see a case being sold (e.g. for iPhone 4) and then you buy a separate mat/cradle. Sometimes they are bundled together - sometimes not.

This is for all those devices that are not going to have a custom charging case brought out. So you plug in the Powercube to the device you want to charge and then place the Powercube on the charging mat. The connection from the device to the Powercube is wired and not wireless and only about 10cm of wire.

So you have to ask yourself, if you are going to have to plug the Powercube into the device you want to charge then why not just plug in the normal charger? OK, so this is more or less universal as you can change the tip and so plug the Powercube into multiple different devices but then that is one extra step to go through as you have to find your tips (the Powercube also comes with an almost identical shaped storage box in which you can store your favourite three tips), then plug in the correct one and then plug it into your phone. Then you can place it on the mat. Just feels like too much hard work!

Good product however I have found the cables a little short and I appreciate that this was to allow it to fold away I question the need for that functionality as its a charging station and would therefore always be out.

It won't charge my phone or tablets, or most things I own. The mat uses a proprietary PSU at 18v, with a round connector, so I can't up the power. Returned it to Amazon. The only thing it managed to charge was my SatNav.

Go for a Qi arrangement which uses microUSB-powered mats, then you can use a standard USB charger to provide as much power as you need.

Bought the item to go with the PowerMat which was a Xmas present. I like technology and the gift was very well received by the recipient. The men of the family are still trying to work out how the item works. Expensive but full marks for pushing technology.
