Powermat 3 X Portable Mat

Manufacturer's Description

Powermat Portable mat: Introducing Powermat, the revolutionary new charging system that enables you to wirelessly charge up to three devices at the same time. Each Powermat Mat is stylishly designed to flawlessly integrate into its surroundings. The intelligent, compact design of the Portabe Mat looks great, provides simple stowage for travel and has been engineered to give you years of reliable performance. The Powermat Wireless Charging System provides a simple, fast and efficient way to keep all of your favourite personal electronic devices charged. There are many benefits to the Powermat charging system, the most obvious one being the ability to lose the spaghetti of wires that clutters your home. The Powermat is simple to use, just connect your Powermat receiver (sold separately) and then drop your product on to the mat and charge. Powermat is also energy saving, being able to charge up to three devices at one time with the use of only one plug. It’s not just energy efficient either, it charges just as fast as your standard adaptor. Enabling your devices with Powermat Receivers is what allows you to Drop and Charge them on any Powermat Mat to experience wireless charging. Every Powermat Receiver seamlessly recognizes and bonds to the device that it will enable to charge wirelessly. A magnetic attraction between every Receiver and each access point on every Mat assures that alignment is precise and the most efficient charging will occur. This is one of the keys to the Powermat system’s ability to charge your devices as fast or faster than the original power adaptor. The RFiD Handshake is the communication between the Mat and the Receiver which allows the mat to deliver an exact amount of power for the proper length of time so that the transfer of power is safe and efficient and no energy is ever wasted. A unique sound tells you that a solid connection has been made and that your device is now charging. A second, similar sound is heard when the device is removed. The level of these sounds can be changed to your preferred volume or they can be turned off. Each access point also has a corresponding light indicator that informs you that wireless charging is occurring. Again, the intensity of these lights can be changed or they can be turned off. When a device reaches full charge, power is shut off to that device to save energy. Other devices will continue to charge until they too are full. Once full power is achieved and the Auto Shut Off has occurred to save energy, the system will monitor the status of the battery in your device. If the battery is used, the system will again initiate charging and return the battery to a full charge. A USB connection is available on every Mat for legacy devices providing another source for power rather than finding an additional power outlet. Each product includes both the Powermat Portable mat and a Power supply. Please note that the Powermat system requires both a mat and a receiver. The appropriate receiver for your device must be purchased separately.

Not compatible with Nexus 4, yet if you type into Amazon "Nexus 4 Wireless Charger" it is the first result.

Nowhere on the product page does it say it's compatible with Nexus 4, but other review sites confirm it's compatibility, which is a lie.

Categorically does not work with Nexus 4. For £5 not worth the hassle of return, just feels like someone has been a little underhand about their amazon search optimisation and / or planting of 3rd party reviews.

Not being a Techno geek, I have to rely on the information given in the description.
On the negative side I was not too impressed with this information. If I had not read the other reviews, I would have missed the importance of having a power cube.

The picture is also deceptive, it is not clear that a power cube is needed for each appliance in the picture which, in my view, defeats the purpose of a portable charger. It is supposed to charge up to three products at once so that would mean 3 power cubes to be packed!

On the plus side, if only one power cube will be needed, it is very compact and tidier for packing. It is easy to use. Instructions are easy to follow. Nice finish. Just hope that all your rechargeable items don't need recharging at the same time!

Value for money? The power cube is an added extra so increases the cost so it is not as good a price as it seems at first. It takes up the space of 2 chargers which usually come free with the appliances you have.

This mat is great for places where there are limited plug sockets. I bought 3 Powercubes and can charge a tablet and two phones with no problem. Although the mat folds up to a small size, the carry box is quite bulky and doesn't allow space for the Powercubes. However, it is still easier to transport than a multiple extension lead.

As a powermat home and office user - the portable version was a must. It comes in very nice travel case that allows me to also squeeze in a unversal dock and I carry an addition powercube - I don't have any complaints but was very aware of needing seperate receivers with the price drop though I think this is still very worthwhile and it cut's down hugely on the number of chargers you need to carry. Having a family going away I now carry a single device to charge phones, ipods, psp's, DS's, devices with mini/micro usb etc.
If you're a gadget family like ours then this is a godsend!

Excellent buy for the money, got two power cubes as well. Just got it and have charged two things at the same time. Looking forward to taking it on holiday next year and don't have to bother with all the chargers getting tangled up in my bag. Recommend it to everyone.

I had bought a combined Powermat and Receiver for the iPhone 4. This worked fine although it was not really a mat - more of a power cradle and so would only allow one device to be charged and really only the iPhone 4 as the cradle was designed for that phone. So I thought I would purchase one of these mats as they were larger and generic and now dirt cheap. To be honest it is borderline as to whether I would use it. It does seem to work but placement of the phone is a bit hit and miss. You can find it works first go or it can take another 10-15 tries. Feels like there is a knack to finding the sweet spot which really should not be necessary. Seems to work best if the phone is placed onto the mat from directly above rather than slid about on the mat itself. Sometimes it chirps to say it has found the device and then a second later it chirps again to say it has lost it. Designed to be folded up for portability. My feeling is that this technology only works within a few millimetres of tolerance and hence works perfecyly when used in a cradle where the position is 100% fixed and always the same vs a mat where it could be anywhere (even when placed over the centre spot and drawn by the magnets which you can feel).

It won't charge my phone or tablets, or most things I own. It can't provide enough power. It uses a proprietary PSU at 18v, with a round connector, so I can't up the power by using a generic one. Returned it to Amazon. The only thing it managed to charge was my Garmin SatNav. This has a very low power requirement.

So, chances are, if you buy this you will find that most of your mobile gadgets will not be charged by it. Better go the Qi route instead, as if you buy carefully you will find one that uses a microUSB cable to power it, and at the socket end you can put as powerful a USB charger as you like.
