Capture every detail of the moments that matter
With a powerful 18x zoom in a slim, pocketable design, the PowerShot SX600 HS comes packed with the features you need for capturing high quality photos and videos while Wi-Fi lets you easily share them online.
The 18x optical zoom and 36x ZoomPlus lets you get closer to the action and helps you capture even faraway subjects with impressive detail. With 25mm ultra-wide angle you can fit more in the frame, perfect for capturing large groups and stunning scenery.
Images worth keeping
Because beautiful images are as precious as the moments they capture, HS System is designed to give them the quality they deserve, even in low light. Using a DIGIC 4+ processor and a 16 Megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor, HS System produces clear photos with the detail, colours and ambience of the scene, just as you experienced it.
Sharp shots with Intelligent IS
The optical Image Stabilizer is vital for capturing sharp images in low light or when using the full extent of the zoom. Featuring Canon's Intelligent IS technology, the camera automatically selects the optimal Image Stabilizer mode from 8 options to ensure clear, detailed photos and movies.
Always stay connected
Show the world your latest images using Wi-Fi and NFC to connect the camera to your smartphone. Once connected, you can use the smartphone to add GPS locations to your images or to include yourself in the shot with the remote shooting function. Wi-Fi also allows you to connect with printers, PCs and other compatible devices for easy online sharing and backup.
Smart Auto (32 scenes). Hybrid Auto
Effortlessly point and shoot for great photos and movies thanks to Smart Auto, which detects the scene and selects perfect settings from 32 variables (21 in movies). Hybrid Auto lets you take photos with Smart Auto and captures a 4 second movie clip before each shot - combining all of them into a fun HD (720p) movie.
Create stunning movies
Record superb, Full HD (1080p) movies in MP4 format. Intelligent IS makes movies steadier even when you are walking or shooting from inside a moving car for truly spectacular footage. When you get home use the HDMI-CEC connection for viewing and controlling your movies playback on a compatible HDTV.
Originality is effortless with Creative Shot. Simply take a shot and the camera will analyse the scene and automatically generate five creative images plus the original unaltered photo - capturing the same subject in a variety of surprising and artistic ways. Select your filter category to create images using your preferred set of Creative Shot filters.
See the difference
A large, high quality PureColor II G LCD screen (461k dots) with excellent visibility and durability offers effortless menu navigation, lets you frame and view your shots with ease and makes sharing them a pleasure.

I took one for a spin for a few days and will convey my thoughts overall, this was bought as a gift for my niece after I tried another model and wasn't happy with it. Overall pretty pleased, it's one of the better superzooms in this price range.
On paper it's a normal point and shoot, but the SX600 HS has a superzoom range of 18x, not as big as some rivals, but still quite a useful focal range for a day camera or travel camera.
A quick list of good and bad points
+ Useful 18x zoom giving an equivalent of 25mm - 450mm in 35mm terms, nice wide angle and decent tele end
+ Well priced in the superzoom compact sector
+ 3" LCD is 460k quite sharp and good enough to use in most lighting conditions
+ Good consistent autofocus performance with mostly reliable metering and auto white balance
+ Simple and easy to operate with logical menus
+ Photo quality quite reasonable at this price point (for normal print sizes)
+ Built in NFC and wifi
+ Has a real battery and charger so you are not stuck with in camera charging
+ Quite a few effects and colour filters to experiment with: Fisheye, Toy Camera, Sepia, Miniature
+ Fairly good macro performance: 5cm
+ Has a max of 15 seconds exposure (useful for night shots)
+ Video is quite good, 1920 x 1080 Full HD 30fps, stereo sound... clips show good detail and the AF keeps up well with the zoom.Read more ›
The 18x optical zoom is excellent and fairly quick (some cameras lag a lot on zoom), and I like the pop-up flash because it's a good physical reminder. My guess is that most of us will operate this camera on its intelligent auto setting 99% of the time and the results which this setting produces are excellent, even in low light without flash. I've ploughed through 3 compact cameras in 12 years and this seems the best of them - my Canon Ixus had massive useage and I can hardly complain that its erase button finally stopped working (got it fixed) but its eventual death came from internal collapse of its on/off button and connected paraphanalia. Everything has a death point. If this beast is as strong and long-lived I shall be happy.
This SX600 feels well made, fits nicely in the hand and genuinely is compact. The creative shot setting with multiple images works fine but I can't be bothered with it and I'm sure most people will ignore it, the hybrid-auto setting with its mix of quick 4-second vid plus a few stills may be useful as an easy way to have a ready-prepared mixed record of an event/day but to me it's a fluffy gimmick. Will edit this review later if I change my mind. The normal automatic stills and the normal automatic(excellent quality) video are fine for me, I can manage my own mixes later on laptop.Read more ›

I don't write reviews very often but this made me so angry. The shutters on this camera often didn't fully open when taking pics and so many were ruined. Read morePublished 2 months ago by sera colliongwood
