I'm afraid after the other positive comments, I for one was disappointed with this book as it was not what i thought it would be.
When it described itself as "starting your transformation from old school Excel User to Modern Data professional" - I thought perfect!
However page chpt 1 page 1 jumps straight into how measures can return dates - with no explanation of what measures are or any of the more basic stuff prior to this - looks like i just picked the wrong book for me. By page 10 its detailing measures that they struggled to create (Mr excel himself and someone from the Microsoft PPT team) - what chance the beginner.

Power Pivot Alchemy explains how to deal with many common issues clearly. It has expanded the range of expectations beyond Power Pivot DAX Formulas of what can be achieved. Every example is clearly explained to allow others to use the techniques described..

Einstein once said if you can't explain something simply then you don't understand it well enough" and this book is so clear, concise and easy to understand that Rob Collie and Bill Jelen have done an amazing job. This book along with 'Dax Formulas for Powerpivot' is a must have for any BI specialist or excel user who wants to up their game and deliver really powerful and meaningful reports to their business.

Power Pivot Alchemy is like acquiring the skills and tools that a jeweller uses to convert a piece of rock into a dazzling diamond. The book is part of my tool kit to convert data into business insight.

Helpful and detailed book opening up more possibilities with PowerPivot. Additional chapters on PowerQuery, PowerView and PowerMap opened up the possibilities of these tools.

An excellent book, written in an unusual style (conversational).
