Product Description

Review

"While writing "The 4-Hour Body", I conducted thousands of tests and experiments and consulted with more than a hundred scientists, doctors, and world-class athletic coaches. It was a three-year quest to find the smallest inputs that create the largest outputs. On the endurance front, one name came up again and again: Brian MacKenzie. If you want to go from zero to marathon in 12 weeks, or perhaps run 100 miles and dead-lift two to three times your body weight without struggle, he's your secret weapon. Listen and learn."--Timothy Ferriss, #1 "New York Times" best-selling author of "The 4-Hour Body"

Having seen a number of videos by Brian MacKenzie before, I know this would be straight to the point an combine my love for CrossFit and enjoyment of marathon running. I have been doing CrossFit for a number of years, but still believe this book is relevant for any endurance athletes willing to improve their training.

The book is unbelievably detailed but easy to understand thanks to the well-presented photos and text. It's broken down into five main sections: Running, Cycling, Swimming, Strength & Conditioning, and Mobility. There's also a small section on nutrition.

If you can get to a CrossFit gym, that will be a huge help to you in following the programme, but it's not mandatory. Having access to any sort of gym and free weights, plus some simple space to do push ups and burpees is all you need. A great read, and will make you question your own training regimen.

I've been a keen POSE runner for about 8 months now and have the Dr Romanov book on Triathlon Techniques. I bought this book for a different angle on POSE techniques for Running, Cycling and Swimming and to hopefully fill in the gaps I didn't understand from the Romanov book.

I have to say that I think this book is excellent.
Everything is explained step by step and in great detail. In describing the techniques there are pictures of all the important points along with Do's and Dont's and common mistakes. I also like the fact that they are pictures and not just illustrations.

He describes everything very clearly and in easily understood language.

This is now my go to reference on running and cycling technique.
If you follow the POSE method of swimming however this is not the described technique in this book.

A poorly named book. I bought this for its insights into the three aspects of the title. Unfortunately it is nothing more than a glossy set of pictures of the author doing a plethora of exercises. For triathletes looking to supplement their training with crossfit it may be OK, but I found it all gravy and no meat. The first 200 pages teach you how to run, cycle and swim. The next hundred pages show pictures of lifting and things like pushups, followed by mobility, nutrition and some example workouts. Maybe I missed the point, but I didn't learn anything about power, speed or endurance.

As an active, if amateur triathlete, I read a lot of books and articles on training techniques. This book is unique in the completeness of the concepts and the step-by-step instructions and photos showing how to put them into practice. I am adopting more focused strength training and stretching into my workouts and seeing results. My ONLY slightly critical comment is on the nutrition section which is pretty brief and needs more depth. Fantastic book if you are active or interested in skills and strength training for endurance athletes.

Every page makes complete sense. Ideal training method for anyone with a job or who doesn't have hours to train. Followed the12 week programme with a few tweaks and my strength is going through the roof at nearly 50 years old. Like the running sessions as well less is definitely more, no sore knees!! Try it you'll like it

This is a very persuasive argument for why the Long Slow Distance/Duration training methodology may not be the best solution for you as an individual. Brian speaks from experience of the LSD methodologies and what it did to him as an athlete, and the differences he has seen since changing to the Cross Fit Endurance methodology. Well worth reading
