Can't wait to read Body Chemistry!
I initally gave this story four stars but upgraded it to five because reading this made up for the first book.
Not only are the characters multi-dimensional, they're real, with real problems, and not-so-perfect families everyone can relate to. The storyline is fun, yet the message is profound, and it's easy to fall in love with Mary and Edmund's story. I can't wait to read the other three books in this mini series. If you're looking for a romance novel with a unique plot, relatable characters, and great dialogue you will not be disappointed. Ms. Girard has a way of creating heroines that must find the inner strength to live life on their terms, without making them appear weak and pathetic. The author has a way of creating interesting male leads that are sexy, passionate, and romantic, without being mushy and over the top. Buy this book and prepare to spend an enjoyable evening reading, laughing, and wishing you were apart of the Black Stockings Society.
When the Black Stockings Society invites her to join, she initially was going to decline feeling unworthy; but thinking of her vow she decides to wear the power stockings at important business meetings and in her personal life. Edmund Davis decides Mary is perfect to oversee his investment into The New Day Senior Living Community project because he assumes he can pound the mouse into strict adherence to his concept. Instead he is stunned that Mary pushes back and that he likes her pushing back.
Mary is a fabulous lead character as she has a zillion mental issues starting with esteem so low, it can't be measured. Edmund is somewhat cold with his "arctic" eyes, but he is fully developed and arrogant from start to finish. However the first Black Stockings saga belongs to the heroine whose efforts to find a backbone and show some spunk for a change make for an insightful tale as she is the "Cowardly Lion" seeking courage with the wizard being her peers at the society she joined.
Mary was a mousey woman that got stepped on and hardly ever noticed. She had only one true friend; an elderly woman that she helped take care of. The rest of the people in her life were no good people that used her at every turn. Even Edmund when he first saw her set out to use her. Then the stockings arrived. She had no idea what a pair of stockings could do but they changed her life. They created confidence and allowed her to change the way the world saw her. They opened a door to a society that had people in it that wished to support her dreams. Mary didn't believe it but quickly got into the role and never looked back. Edmund was an unexpected but very pleasant bonus for Mary.
Edmund thought he was getting the mouse that he can ignore but Mary showed up and blew him away. It wasn't just the stockings, change in clothes and hair. It was the complete package. He found himself going against what he believed to be in his best interests to help her. Their affair happened so fast and took them both by surprise how easily they fell for one another. Good start to the series...
