The writing is concise and the author writes with clarity and relatability. It should be recommended in schools and universities as a life manual. Perhaps one tiny criticism is that there are spelling errors but these don't detract from the overall gist of the story and the vital message.
This book is inspiring and informative. Errol cross references the work of other authors which gives a broader perspective. He has demonstrated that opportunity is there if u persevere. Ultimately God has evidently transformed this authors life. He has succeeded in transforming his life in a positive and productive way. You are a positive role model and I pray God will continue to use u to inspire thus bless others.
I was unsure whether I'd get anything from a book written by a black guy who had grown up running with gangs. To be honest our worlds couldn't have been further apart; I'm a white guy who grew up being bullied from an early age. How wrong was I? Errol's ability to draw on and then translate his personal experiences into meaningful and universally understood messages are undoubtedly his strength.
In one passage he describes how NOT getting supported by a group of friends in a fight meant he just got involved with a tougher gang. This is exactly the opposite of the message I would have expected. What I expected was "I didn't get supported so I realised fighting wasn't an option" and in reality that is his message. But not until he lives with making more mistakes because he chose to join the gang.
So what you get is reality about the good and bad choices that the author made and his eventual realisation of his own need to grow as a person and to help others. These realisations are backed up with great information and practical advice.
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed what I got to read of the book (so far) because as an added bonus I think it gave me some extra 'cred' with one of my kids who saw me reading it, 'borrowed' it and as a result I haven't had it back yet!
This book is a must for people both working with young people and young people. It challenges and questions the individual to develop aims and ultimately a life with focus. I have both read the book myself and have now passed it to my Godson. The experiences of the author throughout give insight to a life that has mirrored the books principles, through a Godly transformation, and the journey from aimless to focused and influential life that now desseminates this knowledge and experience both locally and internationally. As a health check for life it will inspire and challenge how we think and act and help to refocus life. For young people it provides first hand experiences and essential tips for life in today's society.
I'd better declare my interest upfront. I have met Errol and I love his passion for making a difference. This book is Errol's story from gang member to reformed character, with some valuable lessons along the way. I'd class this book as valuable reading that contains the basics for people who think the world might be against them. Errol's message is that life isn't fair but nobody ever said it was. There is no fairy Godmother waiting in the wings so it's time to step up and be your own superhero
Errol Lawson has masterfully put together this amazing book. Charting his journey from drug dealer and petty criminal to becoming mentor, coach and spiritual leader. He has quite simply walked the walk now he’s talking the talk. I read this book in about two days and then again this week. Fusing together his knowledge of personal development and his own life experiences his message is clear. It doesn’t matter where you come from or whatever background you can be successful. All it takes is a decision and choice to go down a different road. True Errol had a mentor and found his salvation in god but now helps others with a similar background to turn their lives around. This book is inspiring, motivational and a must read not just once but at least twice for all those at a crossroads in their life.
