About the Author

Mercurio Lopez Casillas is an expert on nineteenth-century Mexican graphic art, books and engraving. He is the author of several studies of the work of Jose Guadalupe Posada, and coauthor of a volume on bookplates designed by Mexican artists. His book dealing with the typically Mexican genre of "Calaveras", or skeleton caricatures, is also forthcoming from Editorial RM. Lopez Casillas lives in Mexico City.

Raquel Tibol lives in Mexico City and has published numerous books and articles in Latin America

Macabre, satiric, non-stop hellishly gloriful, Posada has got to be one of the best illustrators ever to arise anywhere in the America's, and I feel pretty lucky to have stumbled on a book full of artworks I hadn't already seen.
