To appreciate this book fully you have to read Duane Michals notes at the front. It gives a real oversight into his perception of portraits. All the notes are hand-written, errors and crossing out left in. Its interesting to read and takes about 5 minutes only but allows you to get into the mind of Duane Michals. Without reading the notes this book is just a photo album. With the notes the book comes alive.
The images come to life. The hand written descriptions are in some cases funny and in some cases just a report on where the image was taken and who. But the portraits are individually unique and no sitting is the same (see his notes for more detail on this). All the images are monochrome and all on film. The grain gives the images added texture.
This book is still pretty cheap to buy and easily available but if you want to be a good photographer this is a book to buy and cherish.
