Getting a guide book for Portal 2? Doesn't that take away the satisfaction of solving puzzles for yourself?

Well, in order not to take away your sense of accomplishment, the guide is designed with three spoiler levels that aims to help you solve the puzzles with as little help as possible.

The first spoiler level just provides single sentence textual hints - most of the time that's enough solve the test chambers. The second level provides visual hints in the form of screenshots without text. Finally, the third spoiler level is the full blown step-by-step guided walkthrough with 3D schematic maps, numbered steps and commentary. Also in spoiler level 3, you get additional alternative solutions and information on hidden trophies and rooms.

The guide also covers the multi-player stages in the similar way.

New to this guide is the inclusion of some movie codes. They are QR (Quick Response) code that work like barcodes. You scan them with your phone using a QR scanner app and it will take you to the video walkthrough. That would be the ultimate spoiler. The videos aren't up yet as I'm writing this review, but should be up soon.

Other information included are the trophy guides, hidden areas and things to discover, top 10 quotes from GLaDOS, Wheatley and Cave Johnson (that guy is hilarious), speedrunning guide to Portal 1, the in-depth story of Portal 1 & 2, interviews with Valve crew and some concept art and visuals.

Exclusive to the collectors' guide is the hardcover, two ribbon bookmarks and an expanded art section. Not sure if the interviews are included, probably not because they take up quite a few pages. The interviews are interesting to read if you want to find out more about designing the game and ideas, or how the funny ending song came about.

This is a wonderful guide for a wonderful game.

First of all the build is a good weight, and feels good to hold in your hands. The hardback book is strong and has serviced a bengal cat sleeping on it more than once *removes the cat, again*. The art work on the cover is also stunning and far better than other guide book cover art work, the whole book feels as if someone cared that this was a collectors edition and not just slapped "Collectors Edition" on a standard looking product, again like other guide books do.

Inside the pages are strong, durable and you can be assured you don't have to be worried about ripping the pages with over keeping turning over of pages, though I would not want to fully put this to the test! The art work inside the book is as good, if not better, than the front over art work. Again this really adds tot he "Collectors edition" feel to the product, and you don't feel as if you have been cheated out of your hard earned money for nothing he he!

The information inside the book is well thought out, well presented and very clear. You don't have to worry about not understanding the information as it's backed up with pictures and the information is typed in such away you always have the information at your finger tips, and don't have to wade though a ton of text before you find the bit that you really want to know. It also doesn't spoil the games progression and story as you read though the guide, which is a massive plus side.

To sum up this book, well it looks and feels and reads like a collectors edition should unlike some guide books. It's a good price for the product in question. Great information and great help in-game, and bubbles up as a good bengal cat bed.

A truly great guide, not to be used to solve the puzzles of course. On a second run of the story you will get to know all the secrets of this amazing game.
The multimedia content is also a true plus [especially with an iphone]

The book is well put together. I like the little bits of detail like the orange and blue ribbon page dividers for example. The layout of the pages are nice and has a lot of illustrations, however, we didn't actually use the book during the play through, so am not sure how they translate, though I do like the idea of the 'three stage hint' system used throughout the book,
