Assembly such as it is, was straightforward. The tent itself pops up once removed from its bag, and with a bit of tugging and straightening makes a good-size cube. One side is removeable so you can use it with an open side, or position your items, replace the side and take your photo through a small slit for minimal reflections. I do find that the tent tends to lose its shape when this panel is removed, but it is not too bad.
The main annoyance is that the base of the lamp supports is too small for the size and weight of the lamps. They do tend to topple if you do not take extreme care, positioning the legs for maximum stability, and being careful with the cables. One of the switches on my lamps was faulty and permanently on, but after wiggling it a bit started working again.
The backdrops attach with Velcro pads, but the positioning of the pads is a bit of a puzzle, since they don't seem to match up perfectly with the pads inside the tent. No big deal, and it is possible to attach the backdrops reasonably well.
Creases are inevitable, on both the tent and the backdrops. Ideally, iron the backdrops carefully before use.
Folding the tent back into its bag is a bit of an art, but can be done. No instructions whatsoever are supplied.
The good news is that the lights give a strong white light and I get excellent results. Given the price of the bundle I am pleased, but don't expect the best quality. Fine for casual use but professionals will want to spend a bit more.
The lights are positionable (i.e. they swivel and tilt) and at the right distance dispel those irritating shadows one sees sometimes in product photography. I may well replace the bulbs with "daylight" ones but that's personal choice.
It's a full half meter cube which does need some space to use, but I'll most likely leave it set up on a bench.
I have changed the GU10 bulbs to LED's
only criticism for me is that the coloured backgrounds are folded and have big creases in them. Could be better rolled up. I have tried ironing them on cooler setting, haven't melted it yet :)
Tripods are a bit small for the size of the dish and bulbs.
Box itself is lightweight and does the job as it should.
Please see my first photo taken with a cheap point-and-shoot Nikon Coolpix L120. No flash, ISO100.
I am impressed by the light levels provided by the bulbs. Finally, no noise, no blur :-)
It come with a short stands, which i havent used, i dont see the point in it, i just used the camera in my hands normally.
It also comes with 2 Lights, these are very handy, they give off decent lighting and without them you wouldnt get very good photos.
Overall id say its worth the money, its cheaper to use this and take the pictures yourself rather than paying top dollar to pay a professional photograther.
All the kit feels quite cheap, but then it would do at £60! What counts is the results which I've found to be decent. The lights are bright, but you'll find you'll still want to use a tripod to get really sharp images.
I've found that the white of the tent itself tends to appear light grey in photos (unless you want to over expose) so it's a little annoying cutting stuff out in photoshop but this isn't a massive deal. I also feel I might get better results with a third light or by placing products on a lightbox inside the tent.
I haven't had the problem of the lamps falling over, they're not rock solid but more stable than the other reviewer made them sound.
The major irritation is trying to fold the tent again afterwards. This morning I spent 20 minutes trying to get it back in the bag! So don't use it in public unless you're prepared to make a fool of yourself when you pack it away!
All in all if you want to do some product photography on the smallest budget possible I recommend this gear. And do check out videos on youtube about how to get the best results and fold the tent down afterwards!
