I am a longtime fan of female jazz vocalists and have many in my cd collection including Ella,Billie.Peggy,Sarah and Diane but this has quickly become a firm favorite. Everything about the album they have got just right, the choice of songs,the arrangements and of course Silje's beautiful voice. Wonderful late night listening or any other time for that matter.

Silky smooth and sexy melodies

I stumbled across this quite by accident in my local store and decided to take a chance...and I'm glad I did. It's perfect to relax to, her vocals just wash over you, I never knew Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered could be so sexy! The arrangements are simple and uncomplicated, which just makes it all the better and you're all the more able to appreciate the vocals, which are lighter that Dianna Kralls, though just as strong and are more on a par with Lisa Ekdahl in tone. Wonderful, I love it....More please!!

Extraordinarily beautiful

Where her more famous contemporaries achieve greater mass appeal bydumbing down or aiming at a younger audience (Katie Melua, Norah Jones),or worse, adding a generic 4-beat pop backing (Dido), Silje Nergaardwrites and sings mature music for discerning adults, with astoundingresults. The key to her appeal, perhaps, is in the combination of maturecomposition and pure, innocent voice. There are other artists who soundlike her, there are others that write like her, but nobody who combinesthe two so successfully.
But that's not to say that the music sounds old fashioned. Employing avariety of contemporary jazz styles and with a minimal musicalaccompaniment, Silje manages to achieve the rare feat of an entire albumthat never once falls into middle of the road blandness yet sounds freshand modern and new on every listening.
The highlights on this album are "The Waltz", which effortlessly evokessuch gorgeous romantic images that it almost physically hurts; the playfulduet "Dream A Little Dream"; and "Bewitched, Bothered And Bewildered",which delightfully combines the sexy with the coy. In contrast, a coupleof the songs are very low-key; in particular, "Don't Explain", the finalsong on the album, seemingly trails off into nothingness, which cannothelp but leave the listener yearning for more.
This is music for demand the real thing, but more than that, it's musicfor people who believe in love at first sight. Silje's sensuous voice isso heart-stoppingly beautiful throughout that by the end of the album,you'll believe in love at first note, too.

Ella meets Rickie Lee

I heard this playing in my record store in Manila and bought it immediately, and I've listened to little else for a week. A dreamy sexy voice with traces of Ella Fitzgerald and Rickie Lee Jones but with enough individuality of her own too.Simple jazz arrangements, lucious vocals. A modern classic.

The simple arrangements on this cd makes it the perfect music to chill out to. The cd contains 9 original songs and 3 covers, with the cover of the Stevie Wonder classic "Blame it on the Sun" the pick of the covers. The stand out original track is undoubtedly "Be still my heart". The trumpet solo on this track by Till Bronner is very Rick Braun like. Fans of Stacey Kent will love this cd.
