Product Description

Review

.. it's the best money you'll spend when it comes your 996. This, along with any of the other three in the series by Adrian Streather, is a must-have ... - 9 magazine

Everything a 996 owner needs to know plus a lot more is contained within the covers. Copiously illustrated, there are pictures of virtually every year/model variation. --Porsche Club of America, Riverside Region

if you own or are seriously considering buying a 996, it could well be worth its weight in gold ... This is unashamedly a reference book, and as such it's a success. --All Torque

About the Author

Adrian Streather is a well established author. This 996 book is his fourth where he writes about a specific 911 model. It is his sixth book overall. His passion and enthusiasm for all the 996 models knows no bounds. As a 996 owner himself he is well aware of the technical advances in all areas that were achieved by Porsche over their previous models.

This is an excellent reference and or general reading book for the 996 model of the Porsche 911 series car. The book is very big and quite heavy, so I recommend you consider it being posted though the excellent Amazon post system. The author walks you through the history of the car and its build design and all the "non official" comments he has heard. There is not one area the author does not visit about the car. I can find my build dates, and compliance numbers for my own 996 turbo in the book and this sort of personalise's the book...The only pity is no colour photos, but to keep the book cost down, I guess black and white pics almost do the same purpose. I would recommend this book to any 996 owner and prospective owner

This book has everything one can possibly want to know about any of the Porsche's 996 model range. It is well written and composed with good quality pictures and diagrams. There is very good attention to detail as everything about each model : body, suspension, brakes, engine, comfort, safety etc is covered. For anyone who wants to know it all about the 996 and have a good reference of any of the 996 models this is the best book I have come across so far and I am sure anyone will be hardly dissapointed

This book is a lot of money. Money is not necessarily an obstacle for Porsche 996 owners, however QUALITY is.
The book has some very useful narrative text, but is let down by poor photos, cutaway diagrams and falls short of 'what good is'.
Many pictures are reproduced from Porsche's own material, but instead of making them bigger (so you can read them and get into the detail) they are reproduced at the same size and in B&W; pretty pointless when Porsche's originals were largely colour coded to differentiate parts of the car.

I had expected to be able to look at any part of my 996 and find a picture of it in the manual, but this is not the case. One example: I wanted to see what the underside of the car should look like front/middle/rear section and I can't; so how would I know if there was any damage or anything as wrong? The book is simply not technical enough and represents in platitudes.

Even better if... part by part exploded diagrams; tips on tool sizes; colour pictures and BIG blown up diagrams and cutaways so you can see what you're menat to be working with.

I expected more for my money; possibly even something I might enjoy reading!

Some useful stuff, but the author gives a very opinionated view on many areas without any evidence to back him up.

Overall the book reads more like something that was copied from an internet forum, rather than an authoritative volume from somebody who had direct personal knowledge of the 996 (either through working on them or by having access to the factory).

It's also let down by lots of small black and white photographs, which have the feel of being included because they were available rather than because they illustrate a point.

I've now got almost 100 books on Porsches - this is one of the most disappointing.

What an excellent book.
Tells you everything you need to know, whether you are a prospective nervous first time buyer or an existing owner wishing to learn a little more.
Very informative, let down only by the lack of colour pictures, dispite giving refrences to pictures that were maybe intended to be published in colour.
On the whole though, a great book.

I'm a 996 TT owner, do a lot of the basic repairs/maintenance myself, any 911 owner who wants to fully understand this great machine, (regardless of being a DIY petrol-head) should take the time to read this manuel at least once, it will help your understanding of many common issues/problems and also help to define the limititations of a DIY expert!!

Enjoy and drive safely..
