This would be a great book for anyone who is interested in actually rebuilding the alternater on a porsche 911 but is not the least bit interested in removing the said alternater. Same thing goes for the starter and everything else I needed the book for. I was sort of planning on taking the starter/alternater to a starter/alternater repair shop to have them rebuilt. The book spent three pages on exploded diagrams showing the inner workings of a starter and not even one photo of how to remove it. I've got news for most of you, unless you live in Stuttgart, there aren't many local starter shops that will work on a porsche 911....but once removed they're just simple bosche and motorolla parts and basically any shop will rebuild them for $30-$40. Everything i looked up was the same way...absolutely no photos of dissasembly...maybe that's on pupose...but I know for a fact I didn't purchase a book on rebuilding appliances this book has practically nothing to do with Porsche 911's specifically, but rather the same bosch parts common to all German cars. I ended up throwing this book in the trash.

This is a great manual for 1965 through 1977 911's. The 1978 through 1989 (the SC and Carrera model) cars are given one chapter at the end, so apparently they wrote the book in 1978 and then just tried to update it with the later models.
I guess it's true that you can't judge a book by it's cover!

I actually felt ripped off. The book is advertised as '65-'89, it should be -'85. The system I was looking for wasn't even in the book! It mentions later models as generalizations and too many things are missing for the mentioned years. If you have a pre '85, get it, if not: forget it!

I have been rather disappointment by this book, as it is not up to the standard I am used to with Haynes manuals.
Poor quality paper, faded printing, soft cover for a start.
Then, the manual does NOT cover models up to 1989, it stops - only with a supplement chapter - with 1985-87 models.
Altough there are many drawings and pictures that undoubtedly help, some specifics are missing. For example, there is an ample narration on the advantages of checking spark plugs, but not one word on how to get them out of the engine, which for this car is not straighforward.
Again, the nitty-gritty of oil checking are found hidden in text with general comments on the subject.
Therefore, I am not sure if it should be 100% recommended, since there are other (better) books available e.g. the Bentley manual.

This book has had a lot of criticism aimed at it. However, it does give some good explantions to supplement other better 911 mainteance manauls. Best to get the Bentley Manual as your main manual - but this is useful - especially given the price.

I share the same concerns as the other reviewers. The text is poorly drafted and assumes you know what you are doing - in which case you wouldn't need the book. The pictures don't show the dismantling process in any detail. It is often unclear which year of production the text refers to. It has some useful specifications and may be helpful for certain jobs but in truth I doubt I will be using mine much. I only paid £6 for mine which is about right.
