Product Description

Review

A solid new attack on pornography, which makes a convincing case for a causal link between hard-core pornography and violence to women. (The Sunday Times)

Reading Pornography: Women, Violence, and Civil Liberties is an unsettling experience for a libertarian ... The evidence that pornography can produce harm is pretty compelling here. (Mary Ann Sieghart, The Times)

The most sophisticated anti-porn arguments can be found in Pornography: Women, Violence, and Civil Liberties a vast and impressive volume edited by Catherine Itzin ... it is a comprehensive survey of all the old arguments and an invaluable introduction to new feminist thinking. (Caroline Ellis, Tribune)

About the Author

Catherine Itzin is a member of the Executive Committee of the National Council for Civil Liberties and co-ordinator of the Campaign Against Pornography and Censorship.

Format: Paperback
I had always known insinctively that pornography was a 'bad thing', that those who had 'girlie' calendars in their offices treated female staff with less respect for instance. But until I read Catherine Itzin's book I didn't know why.

It was at times excessively painful to read but the arguments are compelling, the evidence clearly presented and the deductions logical and well constructed.

This book is a must for anyone who wishes to know more about pornography and its effect on our western cultures. It will disturb you, it will upset you, but ultimately it will enable you to see our female sexualised culture as it really is and free you from its oppressions.
