5.0 out of 5 stars It's a mix of history and some terrific interviews with stars and people behind the scenes 5 May 2015
By Bella E. - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
I found this book fascinating and well-written. It's a mix of history and some terrific interviews with stars and people behind the scenes. I had no idea there were so many women involved in the behind-the-scenes stuff of the porn industry, making changes to benefit the performers. Mr. Moreland did an outstanding job of researching, the writing flows beautifully, and I especially loved the interview stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well done and respectful 22 May 2015
By amie - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This was a wonderfully refreshing and academic take on a controversial topic. The author argues the point that feminism and pornography can exist together in a logical fashion. Even in chapters dealing with drier topics like the meese commission's he still interjects some humor and glimpses into the personality of the women testifying. While these topics are treated with respect and a level of academia they never feel stuffy or lose focus that the subjects are human beings. While pornography is a living entity that is constantly evolving this book provides a wonderful history from the beginning to modern day and is about as complete as any book can be on the topic. This would be a great addition into any women's studies course and dispels a lot of the myths and stigmas associated with the adult industry.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful read, and particularly informative about Club 90 18 Nov. 2015
By J Lee - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Rich Moreland has documented, through interview and care, important moments within the history of the porn industry as experienced by its female producers and performers. A wonderful read, and particularly informative about Club 90, a collective of women who have recently lost a key player, Candida Royalle, to cancer. History tends to brush over the women, in any industry. Luckily, this book shines a spotlight.
5.0 out of 5 stars Innovative Literature on Porn Culture and the Feminist Movement 29 Jun. 2016
By Tatiana Laurent - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This book was wildly informative and opened my eyes to porn culture. This entertainment industry is so much more than meets the eye. Author Rich Moreland gives a new take on feminism and shows how women need not be against pornography in its entirety. With interviews from some of porn's key players and performers including legends, starlets and feminist directors, Pornography Feminism is a great read!

1.0 out of 5 stars On Close Inspection, A Logically Flawed Work 7 Dec. 2015
By John D. Foubert - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
In this book, Pornography Feminism: As powerful as she wants to be, Moreland makes the argument that being in porn is an expression of women’s “personal sexual agency, their art, and their politics.” (p. 1). On its surface, the argument is appealing to any reasonable person who believes that women should make their own choices. However, on closer inspection, it inserts the vague term “art” into an equation where violence against women is the norm and the word like “art” doesn’t negate the violence involved. In addition, the word “political” implies something that anyone can have an opinion and that nobody can question that opinion’s veracity or strength. Its just political, so how can you question it? However, the language of politics does not match the reality of pornography, which researchers have shown for decades promotes men's violence against women.
