"This is a lovely book. The rhymes with the lovely colourful illustrations really interested both my kids. The illustrations are delightful. They're simple but effective and very colourful and I like the fact that Poppy is a happy, smiley sort of girl.
There's a lovely message at the end about friendship and overall it's a fun story.
This is a really lovely feel-good read and my three year old enjoyed looking at all the different tails and what Poppy could do with them.
The book is very engaging with different things to talk about on each page. A really enjoyable read. My son is a little younger than the intended age range at two, but this didn't stop him enjoying the book, and talking about it. I can see him loving it for years to come as will my daughter when she is old enough.
The rhyme is straight forward and flows beautifully making it a pleasure to read out loud. I also liked the fact that the book really helped to grab both my children's attention especially Dex. He loved all of the different varieties of tails that Poppy could choose from. Dex chose the fish as his favourite and Missy liked the squirrel's tail. In the story Poppy eventually settles for a rainbow tail, then you have all the different and interesting ways that Poppy would use her new tail. Dex thought that swirling it around looked to be the most fun. Missy pointed at the part where it tickles Poppy on her nose and said tickle. So I'm guessing that would be her favourite!
The illustrations are bright and eye catching with lots of different colours used perfect for children to take notice. Dex who has just started school also enjoyed retelling the story after reading which goes to show his enjoyment and interest in the story. I always love a book that will make a child ask questions it shows a lovely level of engagement and anything that engages a child's interest in reading is a wonderful thing! I am so lucky to have two bookworms in the making so it's always extra special finding books like Poppy's Tail and it really make a fabulous addition to our bookcase!
A delightfully fun story!
Five stars from Rae, Dex & Missy
With thanks to Cate Douglas for my copy. This is my honest and unbiased opinion.
Now from a parent's perspective this is a quality book with delightful illustrations, fun rhyming sentences, and the perfect length for bedtime reading with four to five sentences on each page. You can see some of the illustrations in the pictures below.
My youngest has picked up on certain elements of the story, such as Poppy has lots of different friends that all look different, which is great, and he has even memorised some of the lines at this point! And naturally he has chosen his favourite tail from the story - the rainbow tail.
POPPY'S TAIL by Cate Douglas is a bright, cheery, imaginative, and engaging picture book that has certainly hit the right note in our house so why not try it for the little people in your life. Happy reading!
