As I have titled this review, it is painfully "ignorant" about the religion of the man it describes. To take a small but typical and revealing example, the book repeatedly refers to his "career" with comments like "upward career trajectory". Now, this might seem harmless, but it does utterly fail to give us a glimpse of the inner motivation of this man. In the Church we do not speak of a "career", rather, we speak of the service of God and His people.
I have also titled this review "biased". For example, it describes "same-sex marriage" as a "movement forward" while describing the new Pope's views on such issues as "very traditional" and "strict" rather than simply describing them as "Catholic".
Finally, my review title has described this book as "poorly written". To give one of many possible examples, the book says that our new Pope holds that "life begins at contraception" (rather than "life begins at conception")!
In short, you're better off either reading brief articles on the web or waiting a few more weeks for one the more better written books to be translated. Sorry!
P.S. I've since bought "Francis: Pope of a New World" (Kindle Edition) by Andrea Tornielli which is much better and reads like a real book!
