There is, understandably, little yet written about our new Pope Francis. I bought this book in the hope it would give me at least a little background knowledge. Sadly, I feel that both my money and my time was wasted. It was clearly written in a hurry by a journalist wanting to beat the rush and get a book out quickly.
As I have titled this review, it is painfully "ignorant" about the religion of the man it describes. To take a small but typical and revealing example, the book repeatedly refers to his "career" with comments like "upward career trajectory". Now, this might seem harmless, but it does utterly fail to give us a glimpse of the inner motivation of this man. In the Church we do not speak of a "career", rather, we speak of the service of God and His people.
I have also titled this review "biased". For example, it describes "same-sex marriage" as a "movement forward" while describing the new Pope's views on such issues as "very traditional" and "strict" rather than simply describing them as "Catholic".
Finally, my review title has described this book as "poorly written". To give one of many possible examples, the book says that our new Pope holds that "life begins at contraception" (rather than "life begins at conception")!
In short, you're better off either reading brief articles on the web or waiting a few more weeks for one the more better written books to be translated. Sorry!

P.S. I've since bought "Francis: Pope of a New World" (Kindle Edition) by Andrea Tornielli which is much better and reads like a real book!

I bought this book because I wanted to know something about our new Pope as I knew very little about him. This book met my expectations and I now know considerably more than I did about this religious leader. I would recommend this book to those who like me just want some good background information about Pope Francis. There are many other much more expensive books on the market for those who want really detailed information but this a good short read. I should probably state that I am an Anglican not a Catholic.

I applaud the Peoples Pope. Truly a man with his values in place! His humanity is badly needed in this world. I believe he will do great things. He has his priorities right! Well done James for introducing this man to me.

This book was very poorly put together. It seemed as though "cut and paste" had been used extensively without taking time to change some of the wording so that it made sense. It also showed a poor understanding of the Roman Catholic Faith. It seemed to have been put together hastily to catch the market after Pope Francis was elected. It represents very poor value for money
