This is an exciting, intellectually stimulating and comprehensive guide to politics.
After an excellent brief introduction there are chapters on Ancient Political Thought(800BCE - 30CE); Medieval politics(30CE - 1515CE); Rationality and Enlightenment(1515 - 1770); Revolutionary Thoughts(1770 - 1848); The Rise of the Masses(1848 - 1910); The Clash of Ideologies(1910 - 1945) & Post-War politics(1945 - Present).
The book concludes with a Directory giving brief outlines of 37 political thinkers not covered in the main text and a Glossary of political terms.
'The Politics Book' is a beautifully illustrated, jargon-free guide to an important subject which should appeal to the general reader as well as students of politics.

This book is well written and structured. My daughter has used it continuously on her business degree. The facts and illustrations are fist class.
The author has made what to most people is a boring subject interesting and informative.

Interesting book but a poor implementation on the kindle. Unable to change font size or set bookmarks or read in landscape. More like a scanned image of the pages than a proper kindle ebook conversion.

I strongly recommend all the books in this series. I bought them all for my teen children and are a frequent reference source. They are equally useful for adult readers, teachers and professors.

We bought this one together with the philosophy and economics companion books to help the kids with their A-levels. They're good basc reference books that give enough of a snapshot to clarify things and provide a basis for further learning. The information is in discrete, digestible chunks, so they're also great when you have a little time to spare as you can extract an entire "idea" in 10 minutes. We could argue about omissions and inerpretations until the cows come home...but that would detract from their basic usefulness.

Politics is something that impacts and motivates us everyday, whether we like it or not. I myself love politics openly, unlike many who confess to having a limited interest (even though they get very heated when any form of political debate arises).

The Politics Book is an absolute gem, and having purchased most of the series' precedented titles (The Psychology Book and The Economics Book), I knew I was in for a treat. In spite of fitting into the 'avid student' category with a passion and understanding of politics and its workings, the book opened up many new ideas and provoked many new thoughts, as well as offering provocative perspectives on issues that I'd previously remained staunch on.

What's more the attractive visuals and simple explanations made it both pleasing to the eye and the mind itself. This is an excellent reference guide and is very engaging to read, whether you're a beginner in the world of politics or a savvy know-it-all: there is something to be found for everyone.

If you own any other titles in the series, you will have already experienced the magnificent presentation style of the book (this title also goes very well with The Economics Book); be aware that you are to gain even more and may even find that politics isn't as dreary as you had first anticipated.

Five stars all the way, because I found nothing to criticise and kudos to DK for being on top form as ever!

I didn't know anything about politics before, but now I feel much better informed. The writing is very clear, and the articles are just the right length to take in bite-sized chunks. A really great introduction to many of the ideas that have shaped our political landscape. Highly recommend.

A good reference work on politics which would be a reader introduction for a teenager. Unfortunately this doesn't work as a kindle book. It's not possible to get the text large enough to read comfortably. Even if you could, navigation would be very difficult. This is a shame as the text, style and content is first class.
