Two fast-paced martial arts features directed by, written by and starring Jackie Chan. In 'Police Story' (1986), Chan stars as a volatile Hong Kong policeman, who finds himself incapable of standing aside when the druglord, Mr Ku, he has brought to book walks free from court on a technicality. Assigned to protect Ku's secretary Selina (Brigitte Lin), Jackie is soon framed for the death of a fellow cop who was on the take from Ku's organisation, and must deploy all of his violent streetsmart to prove his innocence. In 'Police Story 2' (1989), Kevin (Chan) is waging a one-man war against a gang of criminals when he is demoted to traffic duties. He decides to take a vacation, but is called back to duty after a series of bomb threats in Hong Kong.
Police Story 2 (1989) is one of those rare sequels that's more fun than its predecessor. Jackie Chan plays his usual rule-breaking cop, loyal to superiors that carp at the destruction he leaves in his wake but are prepared to take credit for every success he has. Here he finds himself up against vengeful gangsters whose plans he frustrated in the first of the series; but he also has to combat a ruthless team of extortionists with a taste for explosions both large and small--blowing up large buildings, turning people into human bombs and torturing people with firecrackers are all part of their repertoire. He has girlfriend trouble, too, since his fiancée is worried that he always puts the job first.
Like its predecessor and the quasi-sequel First Strike (1996), Police Story 2 is transitional between Chan's early more fight-orientated Hong Kong movies and his later, blander Hollywood films. The fights and stunts here are most of the point of what is essentially a very good generic Jackie Chan vehicle; he takes on progressively larger groups of opponents, coping, for example, with a dozen gangsters armed with swords in a terraced garden by leaping from level to level and paying each opponent individual attention. The final fight in a fireworks factory is a Chan classic, depending as it does as much on the comedy of frustrating repetition as on daring stunts. --Roz Kaveney --This text refers to an alternate DVD edition.

Now that is not to say they arent good films, I just feel that they dont pack the same punch as JC's other films like Project A and rumble in the bronc's.
There are breathtaking stunts in the PS films but they are spaced out by some lengthy dialogue and some to be honest quike poor acting from the cast, now I know that it doesnt really matter with a JC film because the action is superb, but the PS films try to take themselves too seriously
and this seems to sap the life out of some of the scenes.
I know that alot of people will probably dissagree with what I just said but I myself am a big fan of JC and I just found that the PS films although good, just arent as watchable as the rest of JC's available catalogue.
Onto the actual release,
Now dont be fooled by the slightly sub par box art, this set actually contains the 2 special edition HK legends versions of Police story 1+2, which means both are digitaly remeastered (sound and picture)and of a very high quality which at this price makes it a much better purchase than buying them seperately.
With an explosive device strapped to him he has no choice but to do what they want. However, at the same time there are many comical scenes in this great movie. Well worth buying.
