Beautiful but edgy romance. Thought the first 80% was amazing however I felt the last 20% didn't sit so well with the story as a whole. Although not awful, I just didn't feel the ending was as good as the story leading there and did not do The story justice. Throughout the book for the first 80% I thought it was amazing, 5* and couldn't wait to recommend it to my friends as a new 5* read but by the time I finished I felt the book was "good", a 4* read which is a shame because the story and writing were so worthy. But I definitely recommend the book as a great read and would definitely read more books by these authors especially if they decided to write about some of the books other characters.

I've read all of Amy Daws' previous books; LOVED her London Lovers Series and her memoir was absolutely wonderful so I was really excited at the release of this new book. This one was a bit different in that it was a joint effort between Amy and her friend, author Sarah J Pepper. Now, as I hadn't heard of Sarah before, I didn't know which genre she writes in-I thought I had read somewhere that she did a bit of Fantasy (might be wrong)-well-that's not my thing at all so I wondered how this book was going to work out. It worked out GREAT! It gets off to a fab beginning! I already loved it! The book is set in the Ballet world, it's unusual, refreshing. I was soon hooked in by the relationship issues. Each chapter is from a different character's point of view-the book is a collaboration of two authors and I thought it was seamless, I couldn't tell, it seemed like one author, it flowed, it had a great style. It was another exciting read and I loved it. Such great description and atmosphere, you can really get into what the characters are feeling. The book has the perfect ingredients: Romance and tangled relationships in the ballet world. There's some brilliant dialogue-and arguing-between the characters! What brilliant different ways of saying something! For example: there was one area where there were some expressions which were all ways of saying someone had been sick, I didn't think there were that many ways! Other authors would be just repeating themselves. I loved the intrigue, the secrets, it got me wondering-what had happened with Adeline's sister? There's raw emotion, and a particularly gripping scene which was unexpected. Beautiful and powerful dialogue between the characters, you really get into their world and then-Arrgghhh!!!Read more ›

Pointe of Breaking by Amy Daws and Sarah J Pepper
4 stars!!

“…I wanted you to fantasize about bending me to the point where I’d break…Oh, I want you to find my breaking point.”

This was one of those books that I 1clicked because of the cover, for some reason I seem really drawn to ballet dancers at the moment. This book starts with a bang with a kick ass prologue that lets you in on the emotional journey you are about to begin. This prologue got to me and only salivated those taste buds for the rest of the book.

“Much ink had been spilt in efforts to describe love. Countless sonnets were dedicated to a beloved. Canvases decorated in the finest museums; each a testament to express absolute devotion. The very emotion that drives us into each other’s arms will forever be exemplified in the arts. Yet, when I expressed this impossibly beautiful feeling using my body as a medium, he only saw heartbreak.”

Adeline had worked hard to get where she was today, she didn’t come from money, she had earned everything she had achieved and the culmination of that was just about to take place…she was just about to step out on stage as the star of the Joffrey School of Ballet, all the stars are aligning until her ex-fiancé shows up. Adeline had been strong since they split trying to forget what had happened with Blake. Adeline was his dirty little secret; he was rich and had kept her a secret for fear of family repercussions. He chose his family over her and it still hurt. He still manages to affect her though and nearly destroys her performance and has most likely destroyed her career. She drowns her sorrows in a bar and lucky enough there is a knight in shining armour to come and rescue her.

My Review
Expectations verses reality can be a tricky line to walk, In life and in reviews. When i see anything with Amy's name on it i instantly have very high expectations (possibly unfairly high) so i was a little hesitant here. I generally don't tend to enjoy author collaberations, they usually seem a little chopped together, almost like there are too many voices and the flow seems stilted....but when they work...they work...and boy did 'Pointe Of Breaking' work!

Peppers sassy fantastical style complimented Daws' hysterical empathetic voice perfectly. The two authors merged and fed off of each other in a way that draws the reader into their world. A world of Love and hate, a world of extremes and secrets, a world where ambition and attainment are everything.

Adeline Parker dances from the soul...she's had a life filled with love and pain, she learnt early that the two usually go together but she's also one of the bravest characters i've read in a long time. Adeline see's the tough choice and she's willing to make it...will her bravery be enough to catch Leo? or will both of their pasts smash into their present? hmmm well read the book....please read this book!! trust me...you want to read this book!!

Dapep (Daw's and Pepper) have done something here that i sincerely doubt anyone else could've pulled off. They have the perfect Grand Pas De Deux, literally the perfectly step of two. Two very different authors treading the boards together, two very different character a frat boy and a ballerina complimenting each other with a pirouette. The perfect twirl of intrigue, hatred, friendship, love, loss and of course with a twist of suspense.

Perfection. Thank you ladies!
5 very well deserved stars!
