About the Author

R. Patrick Taggart served as a law enforcement professional for more than 35 years. He worked his way up through the ranks of the police department in Yonkers, New York. He saw service in uniformed patrol, special operations and in undercover assignments. He was assigned as the Chief of Detectives in New York State's fourth largest city and eventually retired as that city's police commissioner. He is a graduate of The F.B.I. National Academy and is widely recognized as an expert in general police operations, forensics, international crime and terrorism. He was a member of The New York State Counter Terrorism Zone 3 advisory board. In The Poet and The Maestro, Taggart draws upon elements of actual criminal cases to weave this complex story of an international intrigue. He introduces the readers to a former soviet spy known to authorities as the Maestro, a man who is attempting to locate and kill an extremely dangerous, self-appointed anticommunist soldier of fortune, The Poet. Until now these characters have been working secretly behind the scenes, with the tacit approval of their governments to carry on their own private continuation of the cold war. Their activities are part of a worldwide government cover up. In this riveting story a rookie F.B.I. agent, Michelle Thompson, will take interest in a routine murder investigation being conducted by The N.Y.P.D. Her investigation threatens to expose the entire conspiracy. Now some of the most dangerous people in the world will do what they must to stop her.

HASH(0x93c83af8) out of 5 stars Don't Miss this Thrilling Book! 4 Jun. 2013
By Andrew Rose - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
"The Poet and the Master" is a captivating book. Taggart conceived a story with unrelenting surprises and twists. The characters grow on you and are richly described. You feel along with them.

The greatest aspect of the book for me was its authenticity. The author was a career policeman, rising through the ranks as a detective, member of special operations, working along with FBI and counter-terrorism experts, culminating his lifework as Yonkers' Police Commissioner.

Taggart knows street life, the behavior of terrorists, and the criminal mind. His hands-on knowledge of police work completes the circle and makes the plot very realistic. He is also expert at pacing, knowing when to insert a passage relating a character's background to pause the action.

Don't miss this book!

HASH(0x93c83b4c) out of 5 stars A TRIP BACK HOME 24 Feb. 2013
By Denise Murnane - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It is set in Yonkers, NY, the city of my youth and reading it was a memory trip back in time to locations I knew throughout the city. The characters were well thought out and the plot was thrilling. I received the book and in less than 3 days I had finished it. I am hoping the author is planning a sequel using the characters introduced in this first novel. I am a big mystery reader and this book held my interest, piqued my imagination and left me wanting more!

HASH(0x93ff86cc) out of 5 stars Timely spy novel 26 Jan. 2013
By Robert J Browne - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Very interesting spy novel. Besides the "edge of your seat" intrigue of the novel, the author weaves in real life current events that make it more believable. He also included a few history lessons about Poland in WWII, the Cold War and the fall of the USSR. I actually learned something while enjoying this book. I would definitely recommend this book.

HASH(0x942db51c) out of 5 stars Great Read, Surprise Ending 22 Feb. 2013
By Lawrence Conley - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This book moves quickly from its 25 year past start to the present. R Patrick Taggart's grasp of Law Enforcement and the National Security Community helps keep the reader focused and eager to read on. His attention to detail, history, actual facts, blended with just enough fiction will keep you guessing. My advice is to read it, the ending will surprise you.
