I loved everything about this story, the fragile yet hopeful Melissa and Kieran, this unique story line, the beautiful words of A.M. Johnson and how she mixed it with her poetry was simply amazing. It made this story more real, more pure, more adventurous, more romantic, more forgiving and yes in some ways more sad. She tells a story of two lost souls trying to find their way to each other, for each other and with each other. Despite their unique and different pasts they are determined to find love in each other but will it be enough to erase pasts filled with heartache, lies, deception and uncertainty.
This is one of those stories that will grab your attention from page one and want you yearning for more. The pages are filled with so many emotions from happiness, sadness, to shock, to understanding, to anger, to compassion but with so much love that will keep you saying just one page until you reach the epic epilogue.
A.M. Johnson should be commended for handling such difficult yet important topics for all of us to become aware of. Her writing in all her Avenue Ink Series is pure magic translating beautiful words into real life stories that everyone should read. Her writing just keeps on getting better and better and always leaves you wanting more. I highly recommend this book and all her books in this series as the O'Connell brothers will cast a spell on you leaving you to fight for love always.
I have loved all the O'Connell in their own way and Kieran is no exception. This is such a touching story that I could not put down and loved every minute of it. The entire Avenue's Ink series has just touched me in a way that I have not felt for a long time.
This is Kieran and Mel's story and there is no way that I expected any of what happened. The intrigue, the love, and devastation that they go through just pulls right at your heart-strings and has you catching the worst case of the feels. Amanda is known for her character development and both of these characters change throughout the story in the best way possible. Melissa and Kieran are both broken in different ways and find a way to become who they both deserve to be.
It was also great to catch up with the other couples tp see how they are all doing. I am going to miss this crazy bunch of brothers but hopefully with more people still working at Avenue's Ink there will be more of this beautiful bunch of people in our future.
Poet is beautifully written. A.M. Johnson has taken a simple love story and treated it to her unique touch. She has created two characters and a story you think you know and added layer upon layer to Kieran and Mel only to strip them bare to the reader leaving you with incredibly vulnerable and powerful individuals, whose story in my opinion can open a reader’s heart to the power of hope and courage.
Poet showcases A.M. Johnson’s versatility as a writer with the poetry that she has Kieran write. The poetry is raw and heartfelt. It simply is Kieran. Poetry is an avenue I would like to see the author explore at some point.
Kieran feels displaced within his family, unsure of what his role is after the death of his mother. Stagnating and treading water he needs someone to ignite his writer’s heart and to set his life’s path.
Mel is just trying to move forward and not look back on past mistakes. To forget the girl, she was and find the woman that she wants to be. She exists small and has insulated her life and heart denying herself the absolution she deserves.
Boy meets girl. Boy likes girl. The feeling is mutual…maybe. It should be a simple story of falling for one another and mapping a future from late night conversations and early morning musings. It should be all about hand holding and coffee dates and Chinese food and hand-written poetry. Life is seldom that simple.
A woman with a frightened heart and a web of lies and half-truths and a man with the words that hold the power to heal and hurt, take you on their journey. It is not a straight path but instead undulates and dips and peaks and troughs. Love is not easy nor is it always a sonnet.
I loved how the book was set, and how it brought a lot of sensitive issues to light; faith and religion, addiction and pain. It was written beautifully and I loved how the characters were imperfect and flawed, but managed to save one another towards the end.
This is the first of this author’s books that I have read, and I took my time doing so, I was just captivated by the story, and I was rooting for the couple to be together, despite the issues that were set against them.
If I could give more than five stars, I would, because it deserves so much more. Poet has stolen a piece of my heart, and hopefully, yours too!
