Format: Audio CD
Jazz pianists Cyrus Chestnut (b. 1963) and Eric Reed (b. 1970) have many things in common: deep gospel influence, full exploit of piano dynamics, great speed along the keyboard but never as a virtuosity show off, highly developed sense of rhythm, immense capacity to entertain their audience with enthusiastic music that communicates joy and passion for life. They both remind me of some great jazz pianists of the past such as Art Tatum, Erroll Garner, Horace Silver and above all Oscar Peterson. All of their qualities are even stronger in this dazzling release taped live at Dizzy's Club (New York) on March 7th, 2009, featuring both pianists (on two different pianos one in front of the other), Dezron Douglas on acoustic bass and Willie Jones III on drums. Seven tracks (total time 74 minutes), the first five well-known standards, the sixth penned by Reed and the last track co-authored by Reed and Chestnut. Totally entertaining jazz that works well as music background and becomes truly great if played loud. Very good sound quality too, even if the club was not always very silent during the recording of the show, anyway nothing to be worried about. Totally recommended if you want some amusing and swinging jazz piano!

5.0 out of 5 stars Killer 1 April 2012
By Stephen H. Brookes - Published on Amazon.com

This album swings hard. Been playing and listening to jazz for 20 years and love everything from be-bop to hard hitting progressive jazz. This album is a breath of fresh air. It's fun, swings hard, and a joy to listen to. My wife, who likes (not loves) jazz, has put this album on many times. It's not trying to do anything revolutionary. It's just fun.

No greater jazz pianists in the world today than ERIC REED
and CYRUS CHESTNUT, and here they swing us to a higher
level of art and being in duet, trio, and quartet. None better!

4.0 out of 5 stars plentyswing plenty soul dvd 28 Sept. 2010
By chris on jazz - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
I am delighted to have bought the cd, after listening to it for over three occassions, i could visualize the atmosphere and see the actual artists, which then leads to even a greater need for a dvd recording. i would very much like that.i will immediately indicate that is what most jazz lovers will say, i think for this particular session it is an injustice to the performance to be confined to an audio setting/recording only. this is a performance fitting to be on dvd/video recording, it enhances the believe that one was at the live session. yes i very much felt like i was there but i still lacked to see how eric and cyrus's energy and zest was transforming into the creativity that is endemic of the hieght of swing celebrations, as i understand swing as a live festive form of jazz, slightly short of drama yet engaging, it's impossible to swing without a dance and a dance has to be perfomed live.
