Got this as a cheaper alternative to sky+ or freesat and really impressed. Was stopped from doing this earlier as I had seen some less than brilliant feedback on amazon.....pleased to say that it works for me....totally love it so am reviewing for others reference.
Pro's = Easy to set up, found all the channels I previously had quickly and simply and I'm not in the best reception area. Interface is easy to use, intuative and straightforward, it looks good and Is more responsive than my hdtv itself. Picture is excellent in general, it does treat old format 4:3 pictures differently but you can chose how best you want it to scale them for your tv and I think it works well. The recording is easy and the results are fantastic...plus the ability to pause live tv is superb. Havent used the series link yet but as long as the PS3 is left on standby it does exactly what you ask of it. I was slightly concerned that my space left on my hard drive (90gb) would not go to far but it appears that I have about 60/65 hours of recording space which is plenty for me and more than a standard sky+ box i think. I have also used it whilst running games and so far no slowing down etc which is impressive. Finally it actually makes full use of the ps3 and does it superbly.....sony have done a fantastic job in putting the PS3 right at the centre of your media requirements.
Con's = Uses up one of the usb ports perminantly....but to be fair this is a generic PS3 problem...why has it no single back usb I will never ever know! It also takes marginally longer to boot up your ps3 and then go into playtv on the crossbar than to simply turn your tv on but I got used to this after a couple of days and it only really amounts to 30 seconds extra wait....i am impatient at the best of times but it has not been a problem for me at all. Suggest you also buy a PS3 Blu-ray remote at same time as this means the menus are easier to navigate and your girlfriend can use it too!
I have seen some negative feedback regards manual recording at stuff as well but I has doen it for me and I have also heard they may be introducing the option to record two things at the same time but watch nothing (using both tuners at the the same time) which would be a further enhancement.
Overall really really impressed...more than i thought I would be....and wished i got it years ago, excellent addition to the PS3 and superb value.
