Playing For Keeps is all about two of the secondary characters from The Love Game – Megan and Aston. I have recently really been enjoying book series’ where we already have some background information on the next characters, another benefit of that is being allowed to catch up with Megan and Aston’s best friends, Maddie & Braden, and see how their relationship has progressed.
Megan and Aston are friends, sort of. By default, because there groups of friends are always together. Secretly they both really like each other but a fear of betraying their best friend and the guy who is as close to Megan as a brother would be, Braden, has stopped with of them acting on it.
Ever heard the saying “when the cat’s away the mice will play”?
Well that’s exactly what’s going on here. I think I enjoyed reading their story more because they had to keep it a secret from the rest of their friends, whereas with Maddie and Braden everyone knew, this was just for them. It also meant that you were privy to their secret relationship you get to feel how weighted their light, flirty banter really is.
The story throws Aston into a new light. We already know that he’s a big man whore but Megan gets under his skin and there is this whole other side to him you wouldn’t have thought. It becomes quite clear that he’s a bit broken and you really feel for him. It’s somehow worse/harder to bear when your male MC is the dark and twisty character!
It’s written in dual POV again which is great. I can’t say how much I’m enjoying dual POVs right now and I think that you need it here because the story moves quite quickly, so it allows you to get a fuller picture earlier. It also really allows you to get right into Aston’s mind and really empathise with him.
Really looking forward to more from this series. If you like this series, give Jay Crownover’s Marked Men series a go too.
He slowly opens up to her which he has never done with anyone, love his Gramps he is just ace.
Aston believes he is broken, shattered, useless, worthless and mismatched but Megan breaks through all his insecurities, she helps him to bury to past.
Enjoyable read well worth the money.
If you haven't read this series yet - why not?! Get your books bought and settle down for some summer loving ...
The story picks up from the end of the first book but follows the story of Megan and Aston. Megan has fallen in love with Aston since the start of term the only issue being is that to everyone looking at Aston he seems like your usual player, never has a relationship and is only with a girl for one thing! Megan decides when her highly overprotective best friend Braden goes away for the weekend she will risk it all. Little does she know that there is much more to aston than meets the eye...
Aston has always been attracted to Megan but due to his past and his best friend being Braden he has never acted on it but then he finds the beautiful Megan in his room. Aston learns that one night isnt enough and therefore has to make the difficult decision to open up.
That leaves one problem in the form of Braden finding out...
I would highly recommend this series and can't wait for the next.
