I'm not sure why authors ruin great chemistry by setting a great scene to only have the 2 protagonist in lust with each other immediately into the book.
On their very first encounter - he's lusting over her and already debating why it's all wrong. He's like an emotional teen rather than a Alpha adult male.
She's not as premature but starts seriously lusting over him in their second encounter - by which time they're making out (so much for restraint).
The reason why the attraction, constant mooning over each other and make-out sessions are so ill timed - is that we're sold on the idea that the Director Davis Milo is this hotshot, detached, cool professional - slightly on the reserved side who's met countless beauties in his prestigious career.
This is from the hero's POV on their first meeting:
' She takes her glass from my hand, and for the briefest moments her fingers touch mie. I don't even have the time to think about something else. It's so fast, but it ignites something dark in me, the side of myself that she should never know about, the way I like it. But that side is there, and my eyes immediately stray down her body, to the curve of her hips, to the shape of her breasts under her sweater.
Then she bends down to reach for her purse handing off a hook under the bar and I'm watching her, memorising the way she moves, and it's as if I can't stop imagining her bent over, back bowed, ready. The things I would say to her if we were alone like that. The things I would whisper harshly in her ear. The things she'd let me do to her.'
This is just from fingers touching and he's like a teen boy getting excited.Read more ›
I just love Davis.......(I want one)& Jill, both are brilliant together. I won't give away the story because you have to read it, however you will not be disappointed, and I am so glad they isn't a second book.
This book is one of my favourites of Lauren's books and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes a good romance story.
I haven't read any of the previous books and thankfully it didn't matter. Even though I am guessing the previous books were her friends stories, it didn't affect this in any way, they didn't explore any of the past storylines in this and so it could definitely be read as a stand alone.
As soon as I started this I found myself liking the character of Jill, as an actress you almost think she would have a bitchy side but maybe it was because she was Broadway rather than Hollywood actress, but I found her to be a very likeable character. The "dark secret" she had was very obvious to me and there were a couple of times I wanted to shake her for blaming herself for what happened. When really it seemed quite obvious that it wasn't her fault. But other than that I liked her.
Davis Milo was well...he was hot! Total alpha male in charge and not even the usual who wasn't into committing and only wanted a fling, he was an all or nothing kinda guy and well it just made him hotter.
The love scenes between these two character were extremely steamy and even though it takes quite a while for them to fully "do the deed" the scenes leading up to it had me fanning myself. The chemistry just sizzled off the page and the build-up to what would eventually happen was immense.
I'm not sure if I have read anything from this author before but I can say this will definitely not be the last I read from her.
This was a great love story and if you are into hot steamy romances then this is for you because you won't be disappointed.
The Director! Davis Milo is the ideal Man! If he was a Biscuit he would be a Cookie, Hard and sometimes a bit tough to break on the outside but take off the top and there is a sweet, soft, lickable centre! He has been Heart broken so has given himself rules......but you know what they say about rules....
Then you have the Leading Lady Jill.......You Will Fall In Love With Jill, I did, she is wonderful you are routing for her the whole way through, i shed a tear for her, was her cheerleader, and shouted Go Girl when., Well You know When!
Jill is not a sniveller for no reason, she doesn't run or whinge for no reason, neither character does, it is all done for the story, nothing is drawn out, everything is just right. Nothing in it which had me wanting to chuck the kindle at the wall, as just when i am normally at the point when i think they are going to get half a book out of this now, i was like, well goodness me...it is being sorted.....well done Lauren....this was like all the Rom-com's i enjoyed when i was younger with the 'boom box in the rain' moments and 'they don't make them like they used to do'.... encompassed into a book. I can see this on the screen. I can see the 'takeaway moment' in my head right now on the tv, Davis, all Sexy, Smouldering, Heartbroken, Deep in thought......(You will get what I mean, when you read it) . Rom-com with an 18* rating on it ;-) seriously steamy!!!! my kindle steamed up reading this. A HOT Read! Lauren sure knows how to write some explosive scenes! With some emotional ones that got me right in the heart to!
