Wow! I've just finished this book and my heart is still pounding. The story starts off slowly, in fact I thought it was a tad boring in the beginning, but the plot had me hooked and I needed to know where Scarrow was going with it. He certainly didn't disappoint. The story builds and builds until it's impossible to put down . The possibility of the virtual reality world crossing over into real life is terrifyingly plausible in this extremely clever story. I, for one, will certainly not be buying any of the wifi gadgets on the market that control our homes! In fact, I'll be wary of any wifi system now. This book has truly made me paranoid!

I didn't think any book was going to come near to the terror that Rod Glenn's books instilled in me but this one has done it.

I highly recommend this to anyone who loves psychological thrillers.

A contemporary thriller, which, although slow to take off, has one holding ones breath in anticipation of what will happen next.

The central character of "Playing with Death" is Rose Blake, an FBI Special Agent who, after previously just failing to catch a serial killer, is obsessed with catching him again. However, when there is a suspected Arson attack, when a computer expert dies, followed by two other brutal murders, Rose is taken away from her obsession to catch Koenig, the serial killer; or is she? Is there a link between the murders and her the elusive Koenig?

The twists and turns of this novel are brilliant with surprises popping up constantly. Artificial Intelligence crosses into real life and disaster is just around the corner for Rose and her family. A brilliant book, full of clever intrigue. It is quite frightening to realise how technology can literally take over life as we know it.

Having read all of the Eagle series of books I was looking forward to reading a book by Simon Scarrow that was in a completely different genre. I was a bit apprehensive as I am an avid fan of historical fiction, which he writes so brilliantly, but also a fan of horror and thrillers so had a lot of books to make comparisons to.

After adjusting to a whole different style of writing to that which I am used to in Scarrow books I settled into the rhythm of the tale pretty quickly and enjoyed meeting and getting to know the characters.

FBI Special Agent Rose Blake, missed the opportunity to apprehend a serial killer, Shane Koenig, during a sting operation. Months later after getting life back to normal she is thrust into an investigation involving mysterious murders connected seemingly through a virtual reality suit soon to hit the market. But while she is occupied with her work Koenig, filled with loathing of her and the FBI, is plotting his own revenge and is going to make his presence known soon, very soon!

An enjoyable book with a few pulse-racing moments which whilst reading it I considered could be made into a very good film. The subject matter is very current covering social media, computer security, hacking and virtual reality. Will there be a sequel? I hope so.
