Trope: Sports + Fake Relationship romance

Chemistry: Low Boil

One-Sentence Summary: Fake dating in the world of rugby

Review: I loved the first book in the series but unfortunately this wasn't for me.

The book starts off with Dex and Harper fake-dating to show up Harper's stepbrother but the evil stepbrother soon takes a back seat to the story and doesn't make an appearance in the second half.

The thing which really annoyed me though was when Harper seemed to break up with Dex when she realises he does not want the same things she does ...... and then moments later starts sleeping with him again and is angry when his phobia of commitment becomes a barrier once again.

Finally, the fact that Dex miraculously realises he's in love (with the help of Tanner) with Harper and a few minutes later they are engaged was just too quick and cheesy for me.

Still looking forward to future books in the series though.

You don’t have to be a sports fanatic to pick this one up, this is a romance with all the right feels going on from start to finish.
I liked the Aussie colloquialisms that were scattered throughout the story, not that I am an Aussie but I felt that they helped to bring the story to life. That little touch gave the whole story a personality that it absolutely lived up to.
The feel of the book was one that played perfectly into my hands, it flowed quickly and the author didn’t try to over complicate the storyline. It was sharp, it was sweet when necessary but it was also quickly able to flip the heat up when required. Oh and boy did it!
I liked the fact that Dex was willing to treat Harper like an absolute queen, he adored her and despite the fact that he was very adept at putting his foot in it, they had fun finding what was going to work for them both. A lot has been made of the fact that Harper was a curvy girl, I just wished that she wasn’t so self-conscious about her shape…I know that society has a huge part to play on the pressures we place on ourselves but she was better than that and I would have liked her to see herself the way Dex saw her just a little sooner.
But what really made my day was the fact that they were just so normal, they had their ups and downs and they had their own path to find and I was just so pleased to be along for the ride because it was glorious.
One last thought though, a plea to the author you could say, I chuckled as I read the antics of the guys in the team, and I am keeping my fingers crossed that there are more than a few ready on the touchline because I am looking forward to seeing who is ready to take the field next and I hope that it is very soon please!

This is a lovely gem of a find for me I. It starts out with harsh words spoken to Harper, her jerk, (there is no better word to describe her stepbrother), he calls her fat. More mortifying for her he does in in front of Dexter Blake, sexy ruddy star. He can't believe that the curves sexy woman he has been eyeing up is being treated with such disrespect. He steps in and asks her on a date.
And so begins a well written, engaging book that holds your attention from the first page to the the last. It's sexy, sweet and a book with good messages about everyone being of value, that beautiful is most definitely not skin deep and has no standard size.
This is the first book by Amy Andrews I've read but it will not be the last. Well written, sexy and witty

This is the first time I have read any of this authors work, and my word, I will definitely be 1-clicking others. Harper is an insecure, curvy female, and when sexy Dex, who is a rugby player, hears her stepbrother belittle her in public, he comes to the rescue. What follows is sweet, humorous, entertaining, sexy, and hot!! These two are perfect for each other, and this is a steaming hot read.
The author has done a wonderful job in writing this storyline, and I was enthralled and captivated from the very beginning. I will definitely be recommending Amy’s work to all readers.
I received an ARC from the author and netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

When I read through the synopsis for playing it cool I instantly wanted to read it. Sports based romance – Tick. Hot guys – Tick. A less than perfect female lead character – Tick. Super-hot guy fancying the pants off of said less than perfect lead character – ding ding ding, we have a winner. As I have previously said before, it’s refreshing to read a story where the characters have flaws that people relate to daily in real life. That put the word out there that you don’t have to be a god or goddess to be able to find love!
Dexter Blake has always liked his women with “a little junk in the trunk” as he puts it. He is just far too focused on his rugby career right now though to deal with ladies and relationships. Harper Nugent though, well she has caught his eye a few times whilst at the side of the pitch. When Dexter spots Harpers stepbrother, Chuck, insulting her about her weight and telling her she is embarrassing, well, he can’t help but go over. Wanting to punch the lights out of Chuck, Dexter instead asks Harper out on a date. At first Harper refuses, feeling like it is a pity date, she doesn’t want that. But when Dexter persists, she finally relents thinking that it will annoy the hell out of her stepbrother and step mother.
Neither Dexter nor Harper expect to get on so well and really enjoy themselves though. Its non-stop chatting and laughing. Dexter even manages to pull Harper out of her funk after she receives a message from her step mother putting her down, which makes Dexter see red. After reassuring Harper that she is in fact his ideal woman, the two agree to pretend to date to annoy Harpers step family. The problem here…..they fancy the pants off each other and it’s not long until they give in to their urges.
