If you think you've seen all that online shooters have to offer you haven't experienced MAG. Instead of just a dozen or so people in small scale confrontations this battlefield is filled with 256 other players, all working together in their own 8-man squads.
MAG is short for "Massive Action Game"
Take to the skies in helicopters and jets or sit back and call in the airstrikes
Being a team player is the best way to get ahead in MAG
Winning the war means taking control of key areas on the huge battlefield maps
Although you can play the game as a standard first person shooter working together with your teammates is the only way to succeed, with each squad pursuing different tactics and objects - from directing air strikes, to taking part in parachute drops and overrunning enemy gun emplacements.
As you gain more experience in the game your character's abilities and weapons will improve and evolve, with the best players earning the right to command more and more people and take a greater strategic role in the wider conflict. This is all out virtual war on a scale that has never been possible before on a home console.Key Features
- 256 reasons: The largest scale online shooter ever seen on a console, with 256 people playing across maps in gigantic mile-wide levels.
- Brothers in arms: Become the leader of your own squad of 8 players, then work your way up to platoon and company commander as you gain more and more control of the battlefield.
- Veteran soldier: Earn experience in battle (and by following orders) and upgrade your character, your weapons and your ability to call in airstrikes and artillery.
- Top gun: Take command of a range of different vehicles, including tanks, armoured personnel carriers and aircraft.
- The big three: Join one of three factions, from the U.S. army style Valor group to the more unorthodox S.V.E.R and the futuristic Raven team.
Many developers have their own specialities and Zipper's is definitely tactical shoot 'em-ups. The Washington-based studio has been responsible for almost all the SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs games and is currently working on the 256-player MAG. They were acquired by Sony in 2006.

It helps to have a MIC especially as this really is a team game and you will find that being able to communicate adds another dimension to the game. Then you will find yourself being immersed in the game at its best. Upto 256 players on the same map, your squad has objectives to meet whether defending or attacking, and each battle contributes the the overall game totals for the three PMCs.
As you play along the way to veteran status in your chosen PMC you may meet up with likeminded players and join a clan. Play with the same people regularly, learn how to get additional XP and build up your skills to become a specialist in your chosen field. Maybe you are a medic, an engineer or a commando... Most squads need someone in each role to win on the battlefield.

- MAG is Online ONLY. There is NO offline mode at all.
- The graphics are not as high as MW2 due to the map sizes and player numbers.
- You will die a lot !! dont worry, keep at it and you will get better.
JAN 2012: age 2 years
Its a real shame that the COD zealots could not see past their kill streaks and Nukes. This game had much to offer if only people took a little time to understand how to play. And I mean a 'little' time. But in this age of Wham Bam it was not to be. 128vs128 and 64vs64 game modes has not been matched by any other PS3 game as far as I know. The shear number of players in a round made for a fast and dangerous environment for you player - although you had to accept a lower graphic quality as a trade off. COD and BF give us high graphics, but lower player numbers - I guess its down to what you prefer.
In reality this game is now EOL. It is still played by a small proportion of the original player base, but its hard to get into all the game modes. Basically apart from normal game lifespan as the SVER PMC grew in power (initial OP and then players stayed with or defected too what was the strongest PMC) the game gradually died, and now the best chance of a game is perversely to be in SVER and wait for a game with another PMC.
MAG sold over 1million copies and there is hope that Zipper or Other will consider a MAG2.
I first saw this game on my ps3 when i saw in the playstation store and down loaded the demo of the game. Don't think this game is like Call of duty, battlefield or any Bond games. You do not have regenerating health although you did a first aid kit when you start that never runs out. There is also friendly fire in this game SO DON'T SHOOT YOUR TEAM MATES as this doesn't go down to well with anybody including the person you killed.
Ok to game it self. There are three sides Raven, Valor and Sever. All are very different which means they all have different guns and all the things that go with it. There is four different types of game modes. Suppression which is like team death match the rest are all objective type games. The game can lag quite badly some times but this is rare it can happen.
The team that made this game did start working on a new MAG 2 but the work on that has sadly come to a stop, at this time 10/4/2013. Hope they restart it because it is such a good game. This game dosen't come with a mic and although you don't need one to play game, the fact that this is team work base game having a mic is a very good idea.
Hope this review helps you.
You only have 3 weapons to start off with + side arm .
Guns always seem underpowered
With base spec its hard to get many kills
Having stated the above if you keep at it you will get to a point where you can add a few attachment to your weapon and then it gets fun i would strongly advise you have a mic since this game is about communicating with your squad , not only that you can also ask for advice .
