It can rub off quite easily on bare metal, but I only use it for temporary cosmetic cover ups. I'm sure it would be harder wearing, if I needed it to be, if I put it on over primer. It bonds very well to wood and brickwork.
It has a twist top to open and close it rather than the usual pop off lid that needs a flathead screwdriver, so it's very easy to use. A little upside down squirt before closing it and it's ready to go next time. I haven't had any problems with blocked nozzles.
I like it.
The setup has worked really well, 2 light coats produced a good finish which has survived well in the great outdoors for months.
Full of enthusiasm, I tried the same trick with film pots but found the paint does not work so well, scratching off easily. Spray painted some tins as well - again after a light sanding to key the existing paint - very good results.
It took about 4 thin coats to completely cover a bright orange patch, which was not unexpected.
What was unexpected was the very roughs almost sand paper texture that was left (considering the surface was as smooth as glass prior to priming this was very unexpected.
I did everything as you're supposed to do: I cleaned the ironwork surface to be sure it would accept paint. I applied two coats of Plasti-kote primer the day before, and waited the appropriate drying times. Then I applied two coats of this stuff, and left it to dry an entire day further.
I'll also note that the paint in the can was only enough to apply two regular coats to the ironwork legs of a bench, and that was it. The spray can ran out as I was finishing the second coat.
- Very slow dry time. Its been twelve hours, and while I can touch the models they are still tacky. The paint obviously has some plasticity left to it, and can be marked with a finger scrape. The can says 48 hours for a full dry.
- Low pressure. As other reviewers have said, you have to press hard and then stay close to get adequate coverage.
- Expensive for what you get. I expected a mid-range paint, but I would say I overpaid.
The paint does look good, however. I am a bit worried about the dry time. If this stays malleable I might have to strip and start over.
