Initially I had the Jabra Coach v1.4.0 which had a normal cable with volume control and control button on the cable. As it was a normal cable, the twists it developed couldn't be straightened and this really played on my OCD so I had to replace them,
Been watching the BackBeat Fit now for some time and when the v2 came out, I felt they were a little extortionate for my pocket but nearly 12mths later I bit the bullet and bought them.
Initial thoughts are that they are comfortable to wear, the band round the back of your neck takes a bit of getting used to and the eat buds sit really lightly in your ear so don't cause too much distress with tightness of the ear canal like my Jabra Coach earphone buds did.
The downsize to this is I feel that this compromises the sound quality, particularly the bass level of the music you are listening to. If you press the ear buds into your ear or cover your ears with the palms of your hands, the sound quality is more crisp and the bass is increased. That said, I think I prefer these purely for the comfort point of view, i've had them on for 2hrs plus with no discomfort. The Jabra's wouldn't last 30mins before I was removing them to give my ears a rest.
I think that sound quality could be improved by giving users a choice of different types of ear buds to wear in different situations but for the purpose it was designed, I think these do more than an ample job.
The only other negative I can think of it that other headphones I've had and the previous version of the BackBeat FIT had a storage pouch and this new one does not; I've bought a 3rd party one for storage off Amazon.
Last negative is that the microusb charging cable is only about 12cm long meaning that charging it isn't the easiest but I had play of spares so this wasn't an issue for me
Headphones no longer charge or start after 4 months. After a bit of research it seems this is a common problem with these headphones. Warranty is 2 years so I've requested a replacement.
Initial review (was 5 stars)
I received these today via Amazon and have just tried them out on a run. I've only previously worn cheaper sports headphones so my opinion may be slightly skewed. That said, the sound on these headphones are amazing - I was surprised how rich it was and they are quite bassy to my ears. They fit well in my ears and I had no problems with pairing or controlling volume, tracks etc while I was running, even though it's quite different to what I'm used to.
The only negative thing I would say is the floppy band that bounces behind your head as you run. I did get used to fairly quickly and I've only been on one run with them. Also, because it's so floppy you can't wrap the headphones around your neck when your not using them, well you can but they're not secure and can fall off. It would be good if they created a thin but firm plastic wrap that could fit around the floppy band as an add-on for people like me who what to wrap the headphones around my neck when I'm not using them. I'm not dropping any points though, I knew this to be the case before I got them.
However the microphones on them were a bit pants. Sound quality excellent, voice controls and responses not so good.
So I turned it all on it’s head and bought a pair of these having used some pretty chunky Plantronics headsets at various companies for DECADES!
I was really surprised at how well these worked. Weirdly, once the rubbery coating matches your body temperature you don’t really feel them on.
The button controls work well, I regularly use next track (double click/left), volume down (hold left upper), volume up (tap left upper), check charge (tap right upper), power off (hold upper right) and Siri (Hold right).
I’ve also used it for dictating FB and WhatsApp messages.
I’ve owned these now for 10 months and they’re still going strong and the batteries are still lasting as long as when I first got them.
The only real complaint might be that they can sometimes be a little quiet - but this is only a real problem when there’s a lot of background noise (MX5 with the hood down, busy train etc.)
I've been a reluctant adopter of Bluetooth earphones after iffy experiences in the past. In general, I've always run into audio drop-outs while outside and using wireless headsets. It didn't seem to matter whether I was using audiophile equipment or cheapy stuff, the result was always the same: drop-outs.
So it was with some trepidation that I bought these earphones after my corded Sennheiser running earphones died. I'd already mentally accepted the likelihood of me returning them, but figured they were worth a shot.
Having just completed an evening outdoor run using them, I can report that I didn't suffer a single drop-out, the audio was clear and loud and the fit was comfortable and secure. The flexible round-the-head design meant wearing a woolly hat in these sub-zero temperatures wasn't awkward, which was always a problem with the Sennheisers.
Sure, they won't win awards for their audio dynamics, but that's not why I bought them. In the context of a gym or an outdoor activity where you're looking for the company of an audiobook or the motivation of a song, they're ideal.
As a reference point with regard to the Bluetooth connection stability, my phone is a OnePlus 5T and it's secured at waist height when running. I'm 6'2.
