About the authors

I worked as an editor for ten years before founding March Tenth, a literary agency and book packaging company, in 1981. Being around books has given me a chance to channel a range of interests, mostly in the areas of popular culture and music, and as Bruce Springsteen's art director, I have been able to work in my two favorite industries simultaneously. I was a founding editor of Dave Marsh's newsletter Rock and Rap Confidential, and I have taught book publishing at Lehman College in New York.
The popular reference books I write with Harry Choron, my husband and business partner, are about looking at subjects from many angles and examining them each with curiosity, wonder, and humor.

I was a dentist for 25 years before hanging up my drill in 1995. I then joined March Tenth, Inc. as a graphic designer, literary agent, and writer. Since then I've been involved in both book design and CD and DVD packaging. I've designed book covers and interiors for Random House, Harper, Macmillan, the Sierra Club, and Time/Life. I've has also designed CD and DVD packages for Bruce Springsteen, Shania Twain, Mark Knopfler, and Sting. Along with my wife, Sandra Choron, I've coauthored The All-New Book of Lists for Kids, The Book of Lists for Teens, College in a Can, Planet Dog, Planet Cat, Planet Wedding, Look! It's Jesus: Amazing Holy Visions in Everyday Life, and The Moneyphile.

The book which the cats too would love to read.
EDIT (2021): My review up there was from 2010. More than a decade ago. Last night my brother sent me a meme on Snapchat about cats and I literally went to the bookshelf in my office to whip out this book and send him some pictures of jokes in it (the antigravity butterology theory, specifically. actually, let me just add a picture…) and I ended up spending an hour reading through parts of it for the millionth time. This thing has made it though so many purges of books (donations! I would never throw out a book), from my parents house to college to my apartment and now it sits in *my* house! I still tell people about this book! In 2008-9 this book was basically my entire personality, but it’s still totally worth the read today in 2021. Some of the websites they mention might not be up anymore, but all the info on cat behavior and history (and of course the jokes) is still fantastic.
