rakoth are a band that are black metal but not in the conventional sense, they mix celtic-esque music in with their music as well to create a spine wrecking fusion of melodies, panpipes blend in with keyboards among many other symphonic instruments ,the vocals are usually sang with a crystal clear voice that brings memories of braveheart era folk songs, there are of course riffs that would tear your ears off but this is not a band that are here to be as evil and as heavy as the skies, they are a band that firmly believe in the word beautiful.

To compare them to other bands isnt an easy proposition, its as if a male version of the irish singer enya is at the vocals at times while dimmu borgir play the instruments. The band use their music to create emotions and settings and are a powerful force in doing so,flutes and pianos and synths along with enchanting keyboards are usually the order of the day here as well.

This album was released in 1999 to mass critical acclaim by journalists but that didnt tap into the cd buying public at all and this is still very much an enderground album but i hope i have brought some curiousity to those that have read this.

I first heard the song 'Fear (wasn't in the design)' and was instantly intregued. The pan pipes and Celtic-esque atmosphere were shockingly unique, but very quickly became fitting with the music. And the same goes for the rest of 'Planeshift'. Expertly mixing hard black metal guitars and voices with the eerie (or mystical) synths, panpipes and other Tolkien inspired twists. Rakoth are not immitating big, dark Black Metal giants... but actually are one.
Absolutely a must for all Mortiis, Nightwish or even Dimmu Borgir etc fans. Buy it and drift away into a mystical world of melodic black metal..
