Product Description

Product Description

This fully functional crane from PlanToys® can help construct your ever growing PlanCity collection. The set also comes with a construction sign, two road blocks, two street cones, a wheelbarrow, bucket, concrete mixer and two figures (foreman and worker). The crane can be twisted and loaded with building materials using the crane's pulley. The knob manoeuvres loads up down, round, forwards and backwards. The lift carries the driver up to his cabin. The claws grasp tightly then release their load. This crane set provides an opportunity for children to think and plan their own work. They can pretend to be a civil engineer or worker controlling the construction of a building or renovation of the roads - great for role playing fun.

PlanToys® is proving that it is possible to maintain superior quality and safety standards in addition to following a path of environmental and social responsibility. We are committed to maintaining the highest standard of ethics while creating innovative educational toys for every developmental stage of childhood. These toys inspire children's imagination as well as promoting their physical and intellectual development. PlanToys® are made from non-toxic, natural materials such as organic rubberwood. Our toys enable children to play, learn and become closer to nature.

I bought this for my son who is just over 3,5 but wish I hadn't bothered. It was a pricey item with not much useability. He can use it to pick things up but the items it lifts have to be very light weight. Overall I am disappointed with this item but on the positive side, it's very well made and a nice looking toy.

** I have to update my review after my son has played with this for 2 years. ONe of the best purchases we made for him. He also had a Thomas the Tank Engine cranky crane and along with this crane he has had hours of fun. He loved using it to lift and place things. I would recommend this for little boys. A hardwearing uncomplicated toy. **

A bit fiddly to use the wheels but otherwise a hit.

HASH(0x972d93f0) out of 5 stars what a let down 18 April 2007
By M. Fitz - Published on Amazon.com
It looked so nice in the picture and being wood, made it seem even nicer. It has never worked right. The clamp/grabber part can't hold onto anything so my son cannot collect any object, no matter how light, with the crane and lift it around. Also, the crane came in 3 sections which were very easy to assemble, but never stays together either. After reassembling it over an over again, I finally duct taped it so it would stay together. So this crane doesn't pick up anything, nor does it stay together.

HASH(0x972d97f8) out of 5 stars Disappointing 21 July 2007

All my son wanted for Christmas was a crane. Unfortunately "Santa" picked this one. It comes in three parts and they will not stay together. We've even tried wood glue on it with no success. I expected more from a toy that cost so much. I am writing this review 7 months after Christmas, but it fell apart within the first month. I wish I had written to the company that makes it right away.

HASH(0x972d9c30) out of 5 stars Looks cool, but very unsturdy & unstable 3 Feb. 2007
By J. Fleming - Published on Amazon.com
We received this as a gift for our four-year-old for Christmas. It looks great and my son loved the idea of it. Within the first hour of having it set up, it was bumped by a rubber ball and the pegs that hold it together pulled out of the wood. We can push the toy back together, but it is very unstable. We are extremely disapointed in the quality of this product -- especially for the price paid.

HASH(0x972d9540) out of 5 stars Fun but not sturdy 3 Jan. 2007

This is a fun crane although it often tips over and wobbles even though it is on a flat surface. Also it is a bit expensive for what you get with it.

HASH(0x972d9c6c) out of 5 stars How to get this crane to stay together and improve crane stability and functionality 26 Jun. 2015

With so many similar negative comments on durability & crane function I feel this toy does deserve a positive review. We own a city full of plan toys and despite the complaints, I decided to order it. Many mentioned that the crane comes apart. When you receive it there are 2 small screws that you insert to assemble the crane to its base. To be on the safe side I applied a bit of wood glue to the surfaces to be attached, then screwed it together. I have an 18 month old, and a 3 year old. They play hard, and with this minimal extra step the crane is solid. I also put the train track on a piece of outdoor carpet (10$ at Home Depot) and attached strips of scratchy Velcro to the crane base. I attached the train track to the carpet this way as well. You only need to use the scratchy side of the Velcro. It attaches firmly directly to the carpet. It's a strong enough hold to keep everything in place during rough play but lifts up easily for new positioning. Regarding the crane function, it uses elastic to hold the crane claws together. True, there's not enough tension to hold many things. It will hold the plan toys christmas trees by the trunk to give you an idea of what it can do. This gave me an idea. I sprayed all purpose adhesive on one side of a brown felt craft sheet and rolled it up into a tube. I cut the rolled tube in segments and made my version of Thomas the Train Joby logs for .34 cents! My boys love the Joby logs as much as the crane. I also attached a few scratchy Velcro dots to some of our construction vehicles and now they can carry the Joby logs too. Again, you only need the scratchy piece of Velcro. It sticks directly to the felt perfectly. Last, I got some 2 inch gray chenille craft pom poms to make boulders. The crane holds those fine by themselves. The pom poms don't stick directly to the scratchy Velcro dots, so I superglued a soft sided Velcro dot to each of the pom poms, and a scratchy dot to a few of our trucks and now they are ready for transportation play. If you have a Plan Toys road and rail set up this crane is a fun addition. I'm really satisfied with it. I did consider getting the Hape brand crane (which looks awesome) instead of this one because of all the negative reviews, but with 2 months of rough play under our belt, I feel confident to recommend this toy.
