About the Author
Plainsong is Kazushi Hosaka s debut novel. Aside from his well-known love of cats, he is also fond of shogi (Japanese chess) and has written a book analyzing one of the premier players of the game. Paul Warham grew up in Lancashire and moved to Japan before studying at Oxford University and Harvard. The translator of Satoshi Azuchi s Supermarket and Kenzo Kitakata s The Cage, he is currently based in Tokyo.

I had similar feelings reading Strange Weather in Tokyo, by Hiromi Kawakami, Still Life and Evening Clouds, by Junzo Shono, and Parade, by Shuichi Yoshida, although these two books had more of a story line and lead to more emotional investment.
