This is a real page turner - I was enthralled by the fast pace and unfolding story although the end was a little disappointing and I was imagining all sorts of terrible possibilities. A thoroughly good read and highly recommended.

I downloaded this when it was free as I haven't read any medical thrillers in a long time.

The story begins in the forests of South America where a group of people are trekking, one man is taken ill and dies rather suddenly in hospital with some strange symptoms. However, it is not until the tour guide arrives home in Hawaii with the same symptoms that things start to go drastically wrong.

Throughout the book we are introduced to more and more characters and to be honest I did start to get a little confused about who was who as they all belonged to organisations such as the CDC or FBI or other such places, I started to get some of them mixed up! Basically it takes a long time for the authorities to realise that a rather infections and contagious virus is killing a large amount of the population on the small island of Hawaii. By the time the magnitude of the situation is understood it looks like it could be too late for the whole of mankind. Add into this a secretive agent who isn't who he claims to be and you will be guessing who done it for the whole book, in fact not only who done it, but what they did and why.

It's the sort of book that makes you think about society and how things could be very different if a deadly virus was actually discovered. It keeps you thinking about it a few days after you finish the book too, I like it when a book makes me think even after I've finished reading it!

Warning - Some of the medical bits/patients symptoms in the book are quite graphic.

Now this is what I call a medical thriller. Very good kept me hooked until the very end. WELL DONE! looking forward to seeing more from you Mr Author. I would be willing to pay for the privilege of reading your books if this is anything to go by.

Like other reviewers I 'bought' this mainly because it was free and it sounded interesting, I am really pleased that I did.

The storyline is not an original one - there are plenty of 'world ending virus' books, films and TV programmes out there, however it is still a very entertaining read. The action moves along at a good pace and the characters are believable.

My only real criticism of the book is that the ending seems really rushed and I would have liked some more explanations. It is almost as if the author forgot to put in the last couple of chapters. Despite this I would definitely recommend it.

Got this book when it was offered as free but I waited about 3 months before reading it and I now wish I didn't. It really pulled me in and I was keen to find out what will happen next. The only thing that bugged me was the character names - they were all somewhat similar and at times it was difficult to grasp who the person is again in the bigger scheme of things. Quite enjoyed this book and even though it was a bit of a rushed ending, I'm quite keen to see what happens in book two and three of the series.

This is a terrible book. I started reading it when I went to bed and finished it just before 5.30 in the morning. I could not put the book down and now have less than two hours before I have to get up. Whilst I predicted the end correctly, I was not certain. It was extremely well and I had to keep reading. It made such a nice change that the author stuck to the story instead of veering off into sex. There was more than enough story to keep anyone enthralled. I will definitely be purchasing the next book in the series.

A tourist in the jungle is taken ill; and subsequently dies. But the illness that has killed him is a "hot" virus and has already been passed on to one of the others; and it's taken back to civilisation at which point large numbers of others quickly begin perish. A team of medical people set out to uncover the cause and origin of the disease; and protect their own lives at the same time from someone that is out to see the plague spread.

It is a fast paced story, made easier to read by the relatively short chapters, some just a few pages long. The action moves between a number of locations and as the disease progresses, society descends into anarchy. The plot is quite "tight" although it might have been improved by expanding a little on some of the key incidents.

The plot is not that new; it has been covered before in some longer books and many have even have more detailed information on how something of this nature might occur and how the event might play out. Certainly, there are groups that are prepared to deal with any potential problem, just as there are people that believe they will survive just because they are the "chosen ones". As for the climax of the story; there are people out there that would be willing and prepared to take the decisions made in the book and probably even harsher measures.

It's not a bad story, reasonably well thought out and written and I enjoyed reading it.

This was an absolutely brilliant book - I have been reading zombie apocalyptic books for the past year and literally fell across this novel. I have read medical thrillers in the past and thought I would give it a go.

My God what a page turner!! This was breath of fresh air and an absolute joy to read. The characters were so life like and the story so real that the pages turned without me even realising it. I was only half way through this book before I bought the second in the trilogy, (which I will start as soon as I have finished this review.) It is beautifully written and the effort the author must have invested in this novel really shows.

Seriously - buy this book. For the effort alone that the author has put into this novel, I would have paid a lot more than it sold for.
