Top positive review
excellent nursing resource but has very tiny print
on 6 May 2013
It is a long time since I first completed my various Home Nursing certificates and I have always tried to keep my knowledge up to date.
Surgical Nursing is one of a series of "Placement Learning" books which have been written by nurses for nurses.
The book is divided into 4 sections:
1 - preparation for placement experiences
2 - placement learning opportunities
3 - case studies - patient experience
4 - consolidating learning
Areas covered include:
- surgical nursing in context
- principles of surgical nursing
- pre-admission and discharge planning
- preparing the patient for surgery
- recovery from surgery
The case studies are for patients in:
- day care unit
- general surgical ward
- emergency surgery
The information is interesting and accessible for most, if not all, readers - including anyone who has a relative going for surgery or if they are going in themselves.
The book could do with flow charts so that the student nurse can follow through the procedures, some graphs and some colour to break up the continuous monochrome. I realise that it is for pocket guide for use by students but a supporting CD-ROM for home study and backup for the text would have been a welcome bonus.
There is, however, one problem - the size of the print used is tiny, really tiny and could cause problems for anyone with less than perfect eyesight
