This continuation is much needed, otherwise you would be in limbo! It follows the life of his 'work ' and progress of the lives of the animals he saved from certain death.
You can breathe a lot easier reading this book but feel frustrated for him for the sheer scale of the task he has set himself. By now you're going to know Pen quite well and his forbearing Mrs, and of course the rest of the clan, and wish you could just jump into the story and offer some sort of help .
Just not possible! This man is different to most, he's a marine ( marines are forever, right?) and you'd be surprised to read where this takes you!.
The full 'two courses ' is best, or it spoils the meal,
Try his first one then this, but set some time aside away from any other interruptions, I feel you would need it!
Pen is back home with Lisa his wife and their two dogs. The Afghan Strays are now out of quarantine & settling into home life and getting to know "Beamer Boy" and "Fizz Dog" who are Lisa and Pen's existing doggy family. Pen writes eloquently about the ups and downs and the hard work involved in settling and training the Afghan strays.
The book is so interesting and a real page turner. It is a must read follow on to his first book. I thoroughly recommend this book.
The world of dogs needs more Pen and Lisa Farthings!
Pen Farthing depicts the true nature of the conflict in Afghanistan. His love of dogs shines through, and the true 'war zone' circmstances surrounding him instructs the reader, a 'snapshot' and overview. Pen does not pretend to 'try and save the world', he does 'his bit'. A lesson to us all.
And....God Bless his wife!!!!
