Product Description

Review

A feisty story, with plenty of pratfalls that older children will appreciate and some gentle feminism to please their mothers --Time Out

Rose Forshall s comic style illustrations provide a treasure trove of clues to Gran's piratical past ... Geraldine Durrant s swashbuckling story of Gran s escapades, both past and present, and how she met and married Grandpa is awash with witty asides and humour. --Books for Keeps --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From the Publisher

- Winner of BBC London's One Minute Short Story Competition
- Engaging, humorous and delightfully silly
- Quirky and unusual illustration

I saw this book on TV when it won a competition so I thought I would get it for my 4-year-old niece. She absolutely loved it and I keep getting requests to read it again and again! The illustrations are lively and fun and the writing is very funny.

The story (which is particularly good for Grannies to read, I suppose, though that did not stop me and my niece from enjoying it) is about a granny who is very much like most grannies today but when she was young she used to be a pirate. The humour is in the matter-of-fact way that the story of her pirating days is told, as if it was a perfectly natural career choice for her to make. Her adventures are great fun and there are lots of interesting things on each page to look at.

I gave copies of Pirate Gran to two of my grandchildren for Christmas. Both thoroughly enjoyed it, were disappointed to hear that the author hadn't written any other books and asked me to look out for any more she might write.

We first discovered this book at the library and we got it out time and time again, we just had to buy the book for our collection. Our little 3 year old boy just loves the book, so does the whole family. I would recommend to anyone.

Bought as a present for 4 year old grand son, but this lovely story is enjoyed by his 2 year old sister, especially when read by grandma or grand dad. In fact it's been read so many times a replacement copy may be needed soon!

I bought this for my 5 year old who just loves it. Great story and great illustrations. Fantastic

I hear from a reliable source that G Durrant is writing another book so I shall be keeping an eye out for it.
