Pippi is an irrepressible, irreverent and irrefutably delightful girl who lives alone (with a monkey) in her wacky house, Villa Villekulla. When she's not dancing with the burglars who were just trying to rob her house, she's attempting to learn the "pluttification" tables at school, fighting Adolf, the strongest man in the world at the circus or playing tag with police officers. Pippi's high-spirited, good-natured antics cause as much trouble as fun, but a more generous child you won't find anywhere.
Astrid Lindgren has created a unique and lovable character, inspiring generations of children to want to be Pippi. More than anything, Pippi makes reading a pleasure; no child will welcome the end of the book, and many will return to Pippi Longstocking again and again. Simply put, Pippi is irresistible. Generations of children have grown up loving these wonderful stories about the invincible girl with the unforgettable name. (Manchester Evening News)
I read this book to my son (aged just 5). He laughed so much that he fell off the bed! (Amazon reviewer)
I don't know who is enjoying this book more - my six year old son or myself. Pippi is a feisty character with a touch of the superhero about her and is as appealing to me now as she was when I was a kid. (Amazon reviewer)
Funny, charismatic Pippi is the person every small child wants to be . . . Magical Stuff. (Frances Perkins)
Pippi is in the great tradition of children's protagonists who subvert the adult world, whether by questioning it, like Alice, or simply throwing it into chaos, like Dr Seuss's Cat in the Hat. (Sean French, Dorset Society)
She's the greatest thing since sliced bread and twice as perky. For a fabulous romp through the increasingly ridiculous, I more than recommend this quirky spunky fan-freakin'-tastic book. It hasn't aged a jot. (Amazon reviewer)
'She just never does things as expected. And that's why we love her.' (Laura Tscherry, The Guardian)
I adored this book when I was a child. (Cressida Cowell, The Week)

She makes friends with neighbouring children Tommy and Annika, and as the local adults wring their hands about a child living on her own, Pippi, with extreme good nature and playfulness, has fun with anybody who tries to control her, from bullies to burglars to policemen to schoolteachers to a very irate circus ringmaster.
The stories are still fresh and have very little period detail that needs explaining. They are very lively, and my daughter has requested the other two books in the series.

My Grandaughter loves it. World books are fantastic. The 1st book they sent didn't arrive but they resent the item to me, and my 6 year old Grandaughter is delighted.Published 2 months ago by margaret white
