It arrived reasonably quickly from a supplier on amazon marketplace. The actual price at 249 pounds was better than the Roberts cd/network player and this is a more impressive unit by far. The Roberts unit is a rebranded Sagem one.
This comes with it's own speakers and at this price point I really couldn't complain. I have heard better book shelf speakers but buying those easily double the price of this unit. In any case they are a nice compromise delivering punchy bass and clear enough highs.
Setup is very easy, just plug it in select the wifi and put in the right password. after this using the internet function you can easily select the region then country and station. Stations can be saved to favorites so selecting them in the future is pretty easy. When the unit is turned on the favorites are the first thing to pop up.
In fact the only complaint I have with this unit is that it takes about a minute to turn on after pressing the power button. If this was fixed I would give this without a doubt 5 stars. At the moment I'd give it 4 1/2. Then again it's a minor inconvenience for something that is so good. Did I mention wifi was built in.
There is no DAB but internet radio is good replacement for that !
Very easy to use and also you can control all function from your smart phone via ControlApp.
Sometimes though the internet server drops and I have to physically link it back in before the listening can continue. There is an option to update it's firmware via the iPad but I haven't worked out how to do that successfully yet.
This was meant for a living room with 30m2 but the sound fills all the house, it’s not the best quality but from the ones I’ve seen in several shops and considering the looks, it’s one of the best for the price!
We’re talking about a Network Media Center/iPod Dock/CD/FM/Internet Radio/Remote Speakers… with 2x25W speakers (Ok at 4 Ohm =) if you can connect it to better speakers than you’ll get an excellent product, but for that you have the X-HM81.
I’ve considered other Pioneer models and some other brands but what I really wanted was all, or almost, in this model. The only thing it doesn’t have is Bluetooth.
I wanted something to easily listen to CDs I have at home and FM radio and wanted (NEEDED) the iPod doc. Turns out I don’t use the iPod dock as much as I tough I would because, I found out that there are other ways of playing music in this X-HM71. I just connected the network cable et voilà! Configuring the Wi-Fi was also easy but after some days I managed to switch one of the TV cables for a network one, that way my wife doesn’t complaint about cables passing in the middle of the living room =)
One of the things I love most is that in iTunes you can select the X-HM71 as speakers and it streams trough the network. You can also play anything you have on your iPod or iPhone the same way without connecting it to the stereo.Read more ›
