Review

Good storytelling consists very simply of creating characters so believable that the reader forms a deep bond. Forstchen did such a damned fine job with "One Second After" that shortly after the first page, I had been reeled in hook, line, and sinker.--David Hagberg, New York Times bestselling author of The Expediter on One Second After

A riveting cautionary tale. "Booklist on One Second After"

An entertaining apocalyptic thriller. "Publishers Weekly on One Second After"

Finally a hard science fiction novel to rival Arthur C. Clarke, Robert Charles Wilson finest and Stephen Baxter.

This story is a true epic of a time and makes a great read.

HASH(0x9e554b1c) out of 5 stars Thought provoking, informative, thrilling, entertaining. 11 Feb. 2014

Forstchen has produced another blockbuster! I enjoyed every chapter. The whole concept of a space elevator seemed far fetched to me until I read this novel. To think that it is actually possible with our current technology is mind boggling. Now I know how our ancestors felt when they realized that the Panama Canal, Hoover Dam, or flight to the moon were actually feasible. Science fiction is always enhanced when the reader understands that it might be science fact in their lifetime. i highly recommend this book.

HASH(0x9e554d68) out of 5 stars It feels like we are in the Space Industry again. The author really captures the reader. 19 Feb. 2014

If you remember the pride and optimism of the space race of the 1960s, this book will bring those feelings rushing back. I was a programmer on the Apollo Programs in Huntsville, AL. It was such an exciting time to live and to work in the Space Industry. Now that the shuttle is retired, it feels like we're not even capable of the such daring accomplishments any more. This book reminds us that we are. We can get so stuck on solving social problems that we forget how much technological advancements can make social ills obsolete. I don't usually read fiction but I read Forstchen's One Second After and I stayed so involved in it for the days it took me so I could not wait to read this book. It is fabulous and I could not put it down until finished it.

This story paints as bright a potential future, as "One Second After" painted dark..

I only hope we can pull it off!

HASH(0x9e44503c) out of 5 stars It leaves me hopeful 11 Feb. 2014
By F. Smith - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
So much of what I read about humanity's future from science authors leaves me sad and a little depressed. With Pillar to the Sky I walk away hopeful. William Forstchen has given us believable, passionate about their cause and totally believable characters. He has created a story that leaves me thinking about the possibilities long after I had finished the book.I don't want to go into any detail about the book because it's not fair to those who are interested in possibly reading it. Suffice it to say that you won't be disappointed. You'll be entertained, informed and hopeful that it may still be possible in our lifetimes to reach for the stars.

HASH(0x9e445150) out of 5 stars Amazing Look at the Future Should Be on the Big Screen 11 Feb. 2014
By Emma John - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
Even if sci-fi isn’t your thing, Pillar to the Sky, will draw you in and make you want more. The idea that we could create an elevator to space seems so far-fetched … of course that is what people thought when we talked about landing on the Moon and Mars too. William Forstchen has mastered the art of storytelling and I hope Hollywood is taking note because this book is definitely big screen worthy!
