Format: Audio CD
Ok, this CD covers songs sung by many others before e.g "Live to Tell" by Madonna. "The Man With The Child in His Eyes" by Kate Bush. "Songbird" by Eva Cassidy. But Ruthie sings them with her own style and uniqueness. Everyone of these songs you could listen to over and over. Most the songs are quite spiritual, therefore relaxing. Here is a songlist:
Songbird
After the Rain
Never Again
Chasing the Clouds
When two Worlds drift apart
If you believe
Wet
Hushabye Mountain
Live To Tell
The man with the child in his eyes
This time around (from peggy sue got married)
Maybe Im Wrong
Ordinary Miracles
Pilgrim.
This is a truly inspirational album, by THE musicals diva of all time.

This is the first album by Ruthie that I have bought, but it certainly won't be the last. Ever since being spellbound by her voice in Les Miserables as Fantine, I have looked forward to hearing more. Her passionate performance of these beautiful songs further convince me that Ms Henshall has one of the finest voices around today!

Not as immediately appealing as her Gershwin Album but it grows on you. I never thought I could enjoy "Hushabye Mountain." Album could have been titled "From the Heart" because it is so intimate.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely Voice 26 Aug. 2003
By charles steak - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This is a quiet and very pleasant album that grows on you with repeated listening. Henshall's voice seems perfectly suited to these songs, angst is banished, and later, you find yourself playing it again. A little bit like peacefully throwing stones into a pond and watching the ripples clear until you have a calm reflection again. One caveat - this is not an album of musical theater songs, despite Henshall's career as a West End actress.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful in an Unusual Way 16 Mar. 2005

I have only seen Ruthie Henshall as Fantine on the Les Miserables in Concert DVD, but she has one of those voices that is very distinct.

This is a lovely CD. It isn't theater music, as mentioned before. It is almost like she is singing poems. The songs are not extremely melodic and are not the kinds of songs that anyone could sing successfully, but Ruthie accomplishes in extracting the beauty in them.

I appreciate the fact that the orchestrations are very simple. She is very much the soloist on this album and is not overpowered by heavy instrumentals and back-up singers. There is a lovely simplicity and sweetness to the whole album that is very unique. Each song seems to depend on the others as a whole and it is almost like she is telling a story with her voice.

I'm very impressed...

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best cd's out 9 May 2002
By V. Arkhangel - Published on Amazon.com

West End and Browadway star Ruthie Henshall does an amazing job on this cd. This is her third solo cd to date, and every song is a treasure. Ms. Henshall's gorgeous voice is perfect and its huskiness gives every song a special quality. Her rendition of Hushabye Mountain from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is absolutely haunting. If you haven't already done so, run out and buy this cd! You'll love it!
4.0 out of 5 stars Ruthie is amazingly talented 31 May 2012

She is an awesome singer, and this album demonstrates that. She sings many passionate songs on this album. They tend to be a bit over the top for an audio CD due most likely from her theatrical background, something I am not a big fan of. I enjoy the album anyway. I would go to see her in concert based on this album.
4.0 out of 5 stars Marvelous.... 9 Feb. 2003

Ruthie Henshall has a very distinct voice that demands the attention of the listener. I wasn't sure what to expect from this album, but I was quite pleased. It's very laid-back. My only criticism is that there are no liner notes from Ms. Henshall explaining why she chose the songs she chose. The versions of Fleetwood Mac's Songbird and Madonna's Live to Tell rival the original versions. There were several songs that seemed very familiar to me, but I couldn't put my finger on where I'd heard them before. I recommend this album to any fan of so-called "easy listening" music or Broadway.
