The race is on at 6 o'clock sharp! This nicely, rhyming story is about a group of children on bikes, scooters and skateboards. The rules are made clear, fair play is required. Once the race is on, some have spills but who is this coming up from behind? Your kids will laugh when they read what happens.

This is a fun, attention grabbing, well-written and illustrated short story. Not only that but you can also go to the author's website and download FREE Activity pages which are not only fun but also educational! EXCELLENT! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Excellent book with great illustrations. We really enjoyed it at bedtime and I bet it would be awesome for children just learning to read too.

I thought it was good but my grand children were not so inclined. But will try them again in a few weeks see if it changes.

4.0 out of 5 stars cute...a little scary 5 Dec. 2012

My little guys liked this rhyming poem book and the pictures were cute. The book was a little shorter than I thought it would be and I'm not sure about using the word mangled when describing children, but for the most part it was a fun and silly read. This book looked really good on the kindle fire and the kids wanted to read it a second time.
5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Illustrations Complement This Well Written Fun Poem 28 Oct. 2012
By James N Simpson - Published on Amazon.com

The Pile Up is simply a lot of fun. A lot of these Kindle picture books authors have taken the time to write the books and draw the illustrations but not to format the book correctly as a Kindle book. Meaning you've got to adjust font size and so forth to view them but The Pile Up displays perfectly. It's a good story too, or more accurately it's a good rhyming poem. It's basically the tale of a suburban street's big race for kids with all sorts of modes of transports ie bikes, scooters, skateboards and so on. The nice thing about it is through the illustrations and words, the various aged residents of the neighbourhood seem to be supporting this event, it's not just a bunch of bored kids riding to the top of a hill and risking themselves getting hit by cars or damaging people's property, so it stimulates a nice conversation if the kids you're reading this to want to do something similar to what they should do beforehand. Likewise although it's never mentioned or lectured to the reader in the words, all the kids participating in the race itself are wearing helmets. From the title you can tell what happens but following the events of the poem is a fun journey there.

I'll definitely check out other books by this author, I was very impressed by The Pile Up.
5.0 out of 5 stars A Rhyming Story That's Fun to Read Aloud! 2 Aug. 2012
By Maggie Mack - Published on Amazon.com

Now that my grandchildren have taken over my iPad, I have to make sure that there are some fun books to read on it. Well, this one most certainly qualified. I LOVED this book.

Those of you who read aloud to your children or grandchildren will know that it makes a lot of difference when the rhyme 'works'. As you read, you can build up the pace and the rhythm and then really dramatize the 'oh NO!!!" type of pages when something disastrous happens - and don't kids love that?

This book's a corker. From the first page I thought "This author knows what she's doing!" How could kids not get involved right away with an opening like this:

Get out your skateboard,
Get out your bike,
Get out your scooter,
WE'RE RACING TONIGHT!

Top marks to this author on the humorous ending, too. It will leave both kids and adults feeling satisfied.

The illustrations are bright and interesting... and you'll find there's a special bonus! The author is an ex-teacher, and she's provided some terrific fun activities on her website (I just spent ten minutes doing a clickable jigsaw puzzle!) as well as some great worksheets. This book would be an excellent purchase for anyone home-schooling, with all the bonus activities. AND for frazzled mothers on wet days or during a long school vacation.

Top job, Ms. Adolphs!
